Chapter 99

Sierra kept quiet, which caught the girl off guard.

“Sierra, is something wrong?” the girl asked.

Sierra looked at the cat behind the girl on the call and asked, “Wasn’t your cat supposed to be outside?”

As soon as she said that, the girl and both cats in the video all showed a subtle change in their expressions.

The cat stuck outside looked like its luck was finally turning, and started meowing like crazy.

The cat inside had its eyes light up, as if it were seeing a miracle, too.

The cat said, “If you really get what we cats are saying, then go tell Kyrie’s useless owner: I’m Bandit, not her cat, got it?”

Just half a month ago, Bandit was just chilling by the yard gate, trying to catch some birds, when out of nowhere, Kyrie’s owner grabbed it and locked it up for half a month, just like that.

Every time it tried to make a break for it, those humans would catch it right away.

Bandit was pissed off.

Bandit turned his head toward the window and grumbled, “Kyrie’s owner is seriously clueless, always thinking he’s just some stray. I hear Kyrie crying his eyes out outside the window every single day.”

Bandit thought, ‘Seriously? Are these humans just face-blind or what? I mean, look at me: handsome, charming, total heartbreaker. How could anyone mix me up with that dopey Kyrie?

‘Besides, I’d never stoop to taking over another cat’s life.

‘If I don’t give Kyrie his spot back, that idiot’s gonna starve for sure.

‘Good thing someone finally gets what I’m saying.’

Bandit let out a few more meows.

Once Sierra heard him, she told the girl to open the window.

After being locked out for half a month, Kyrie finally slipped back inside and started rubbing up against his owner’s legs, purring nonstop.

Kyrie whined, “Finally, you let me in. You have no idea how rough it was out there.

“Every day, when I got thirsty, I had to drink from the farmland. When I was hungry, I tried to catch fish in the pond, but I never caught any. And then the old man started chasing me with a hoe.

“He used to call me his precious and say the pond was all mine, but now he’s swinging a hoe at me and calling me a bad cat.

“I even tried hunting mice, but the ones around here are as big as cats. Scared the fur right off me.

“Things got so bad, I even tried eating toads. Who knew those nasty things would make me drool and gag? I almost didn’t make it back to you, master.

Kyrie was all pitiful, going on and on about how miserable his last half-month had been.

Even if the viewers had no clue what he was saying, those endless, dramatic meows and that face that looked like he was about to burst into tears any second made it clear: this little guy was totally miserable.

But Kyrie’s owner was still utterly baffled by the whole situation.

She stared at Kyrie, weaving around her legs, his round belly on full display: adorable and silly, sure, but honestly, Kyrie was a total mess.

Unable to stand it, she used her foot to gently push Kyrie aside, trying not to get any of that grime on herself.

Kyrie stared at his owner, eyes wide in total disbelief.

He whined, “Wait, aren’t I supposed to be your favorite cat?”

On the video call, the girl noticed Kyrie giving her that familiar, pleading look. Instinctively, she clutched Bandit like he was her lifeline and said with a straight face, “Listen, little guy, you’re adorable, but we seriously can’t handle another cat here.”

Kyrie gave his owner the most heartbroken look ever.

Then the girl turned to Sierra on the screen and said with total confidence, “Sierra, you’ve got it wrong. This stray might look a lot like Kyrie, but I’d never mix up my own cat.”

Both cats and Sierra were speechless.

Sierra thought, ‘It is painfully obvious, but the owner is still dead set on believing she hadn’t mixed up the cats.

Sierra couldn’t help but groan, “Come on, isn’t it obvious from the way these two are acting? Sexy Cockroach Queen?”

The girl blushed bright red when Sierra called out her username. She murmured, “But…”

She wanted to say there was no way she could’ve mixed the two cats up, but her eyes instinctively landed on the stray’s amber-colored eyes.

When Kyrie turned one, he got conjunctivitis. It healed, but ever since then, his pupils had this tiny dark spot.

And now, the stray’s eyes looked exactly like Kyrie’s.

The girl glanced down at the cat in her arms and noticed that there wasn’t that little dark spot in its eyes at all.

She thought, ‘Oh no. Did I really mix them up?’

The girl was thunderstruck, just sitting there, completely shell-shocked and unable to react.

She kept replaying the whole thing in her mind, wondering how she ever got so convinced that the cat she was holding, Bandit, was actually her own Kyrie.

One view commented: [So her own cat was out there on the streets for a whole half month?]

Another commented: [The owner is so irresponsible. Didn’t she say she’s been taking care of her cat all this time? How could she not even recognize her own cat?]

Someone commented: [Maybe it’s just because the two cats look so much alike. They’re about the same size, with the same markings; even that little yellow spot at the corner of their mouthis is identical.

[Cats aren’t like dogs. Some of them just don’t like to interact, so it’s not that surprising she didn’t notice right away.]

One commented: [Kyrie’s face had me dying!]

Another commented: [So the cat she mixed up is probably just a stray, and it wants out so Kyrie can get his life back.]

One commented: [Even cats know when they’ve messed up and try to make things right. Humans? Not so much.]

That comment caught Sierra’s eye.

But the comments were flying by so fast that by the time she blinked, it was already gone.

Sierra looked at the girl with a gentle smile and said, “Turns out the little guy in your arms is actually a stray, but looks like it’s been living the good life. It hasn’t really gone hungry at all.”

By now, the girl had finally snapped out of it.

She shrugged and said, “Well, guess I’ll just keep it then.”

When they heard that, Bandit and Kyrie both gave her a look, each with their own vibe.

Kyrie was speechless.

Bandit’s face was a mix of shock, excitement, and pure disbelief.

The girl scooped Bandit up and affectionately stroked his face. She said, “Hey there, little guy, how about I give you a real home from now on?”

“What should I name you?” she muttered, then turned to Sierra. She asked, “Hey Sierra, why don’t you name him?”

Sierra looked at the girl, then at Bandit, thought for a second, and said, “Honestly, he likes calling himself Bandit, so let’s just stick with that.”

Bandit was so happy with his name that he couldn’t stop meowing.

The girl thought the name Bandit didn’t really suit his adorable face, but seeing how excited he was, she decided not to argue about it.

Kyrie locked eyes with his human if the world was ending.

He thought, ‘Weren’t we supposed to be a one-cat household?’
