Chapter 103
Gunner POV
The morning had been full on, not just the time in the cells, but having Cora here, working with Hacker, had my mind straying to her, hoping she was alright, not being overworked, Cora does so much, a business of her own, that I know she works on regularly, her nursing, and the community park project, and then us with this shooting, coming up with ideas, and suggestions all the time, and then the emotional side of meeting her father for the first time, and trying to see if they can bond, and forgive the years he has missed.
Bet he’s hunting down ways to take her uncle down, for the years of hurt he had given her. I hear snippets
but try to stay out of it, unless Cora wants to talk about it, which is hard, because it’s in my nature to want
to know everything.
So far, we have decided that it was just this company, and possibly the gun club they use for recreational purposes. According to the information we have so far, Hacker couldn’t find any other link.
Oddball’s phone rang, and we raced to the security room.

Cora’s tone of voice made it sound urgent.
The spreadsheet Cora had made showed the changes to this week’s route, and another showed next week’s route. Point Ridge was the next target.
But why?
We don’t have a clear view of why these towns are targeted.
What’s the link?
“Demetri, I need your help. We should get hold of Downer, let him know what happened, if he doesn’t already know, regarding Redhill Ridge having been targeted and that they were next, get his co–operation to have your men assisting them to capture these shooters, I want them all in separate cells, as quick as possible, I mean all, I don’t care if they are injured as long as they are alive, do we have a deal?” Oddball quietly asked Demetri,” He has seen enough here, decides just to do his own thing. ! hppe that he will accept. If he refuses, he will have a harder time finding friends in the club; they will always be wary of him. “Count me in, you have good resources and perfect holding cells, we can keep this under wraps for as long as we can, my undercover people might want in on this too, they have had a long investigation going on, and with your help they might see an end soon, and back to the families.” Demetri shook his hand as he agreed, a sparkle in his eye that wasn’t there before, like he loved the challenges.
“They will be worried about the two delivery drivers missing. Have hackers the company collected the two delivery vans?” Oddball turned to Hacker, who had returned to his computer, after looking at what Cora had on display.
“One is on the move, the other is still sitting, but another van is headed in that direction. I guess they will collect it soon.” Hacker replied, not looking up from his screen.

“They will have to replace those two drivers or change routes to cover the shortfall. They should be worried, and most likely checking with hospitals, etc, looking for the missing drivers. They didn’t have any personal GPS on them, and their phones were turned off, so no tracking could be done there either. No cameras are pointing to why they are missing. I am going to pull out the employee information list and see if we can find a link explaining why the company was suddenly going gun crazy. We had not dug deep enough; something was still missing. This was more than a company on a shooting spree or a gun club competition. We will try to find the link, this time digging deeper into the company directors and family.” Cora suddenly added, her fingers still flying over the keyboard–a skill I can’t do. I can’t type and talk about
something completely different to what the fingers are typing, guess this was the ultimate multitasking. I put it down to muscle memory, or something like that, because I can work on a motor and talk at the same time, something I am familiar with.
“Everyone out. Except Hacker Demetri, Cora and Gunner.” Oddballycommanded, and the three men who were working with Hacker left the room immediately.
“What’s up?” Cora asked when the room emptied.
“Don’t want ears in the room as we discuss moving forward with this, it’s getting deeper and trickier. Not that I don’t trust the men, but it’s better having fewer ears in the room; lips can become loose when plied with liquor. If you get my drift.” I get it, and would expect nothing less from Oddball.
We talked, changed minds, and made up a plan on the whiteboard that we could clean off when we were done. Cora and Demetri both came up with ideas, like father like daughter, both with analytic minds. It was good to see that, even though they had not met before, they shared so many habits and thoughts.
“Lunch time, we need to wrap this up, and act like nothing is going down. Demetri, after lunch, meet me in my office, and we’ll do a phone conference with the three towns that have been targeted. We can’t move forward until we speak with the club leaders, as this is more their responsibility than ours. Hacker, let Cora know if any route changes so that she can update that spreadsheet.” You might be wondering why only Cora can update the sheets. Cora added permissions to it so only she could make changes, and it can’t be copied without her knowledge. Someone would have to make their own spreadsheet and type out that information to create their own. They would need to understand the macros that Cora used to create the pie charts and other charts from the information, and that would point back to the club leaders, because only they have permission to view the server where the spreadsheet is stored. Cora and Hacker were both very careful with who could see what, when it came to the shared server information. It was like the cloud system, but our own one.
We came out, the door automatically locking behind us, and headed to the dining hall. We have not given Demetri a tour of the clubhouse yet, and we had no clue where the dining hall or the kitchens were. He followed quietly, talking to Hacker in code, his eyes glancing around and back to Hacker ever few steps, always alert to his surroundings, just like me, he was an enforcer in his own right, possible because of who he was, and needed to be aware, this was more than being trained, he was born with instincts, just like I noticed with Cora, when she saved me that day.
We had entered the hall, and Cora was seated next to me. She doesn’t like to be on my lap all the time,

mainly at the dinner table. She makes a fuss, and I don’t push it at most meal times. Oddball took his usual seat, and Hacker sat on the other side of Demetri, who took a seat on the other side of Cora. They would continue to discuss something they were cooking up together, and it had to do with the undercover section and permission to interact. Getting higher authority to do some things, and what he would need to
do secretly.
Demetri suddenly stopped talking and stared. I followed his line of sight and smiled.
Scones was at the door, standing still, staring at Demetri, and both froze in staring at each other. Just like Cora did when she met her father for the first time. One of the other ladies had placed her tray of food on the table, turned, took the one from Scones and placed that on the table, and then grabbed Scones on the shoulders, turned her around, and marched her out the door, which left Demetri staring a little longer at the door that Scones disappeared into.
