Chapter 135
Chapter 135
Gunner POV
The weekend was the best.”
$
Cora was perfect, in every way fitting in with all the activities and the other club members who came to say hello. She didn’t shy away from greeting them and then leaving me to do all the talking; she didn’t show any interest in any of the men or answer their questions. My claiming her as my girlfriend led many to back away, and Cora was accepted, even though she wasn’t wearing my name yet. Even letting me take her into the bathroom was an experience in and of itself. I didn’t expect anyone to come in at that time of the morning. Lesson learned for me too.
This weekend will be forever in my mind as the best one in my life so far. Both declaring love, I have had girls throw themselves at me, saying they love me, but it never felf real. This was real, and I am soaring. I am going to look for a ring. I know it’s quick, but when it’s right, it’s right, and I want her to be mine in every way. I want to see her wearing my name on a cut.
On the way home, Cora started asking questions again.
“Why do the cuts the ladies wear say they are the property of the man?” The way Cora said it made it seem wrong for some reason.
“When you accept a cut from a man, you are accepting all of him, and trust he will be your protector, and by him saying you are his property, it keeps other men from trying to claim you, or approach you for intimacy. It’s frowned upon for a woman to be with a male who is not your protector.” Scones replied with delicate care.
“By wearing his name, and he wears mine, does that mean he doesn’t stray either?” Cora was asking some pretty deep questions, and I wondered if her trust issues were driving them. I understand the concern, but if she looked around, she would see that none of the men listed has been involved in any misconduct in our club, not since Oddball became president six years ago. He doesn’t tolerate cheaters either, and it was put to the vote on what to do if you find one.
“For most men, yes, but it doesn’t stop low-life skanks from trying, then they get banned from the club, because we don’t need girls that don’t respect our code; however, like in my case, not all men are the same and can cheat on you.” The sadness of that admission came across clearly.
୮
“If I wore a cut, with a man’s name on it, and he cheated, I would throw the eut back at him, and tell him to find someone else to wear his name. I don’t tolerate cheaters either; that’s disrespectful and low.” Although Cora was talking to Scones, i got the message loud and clear; Cora would know both of us could hear her declaration.
“Same here, dear, same here, been there, done that, won’t tolerate it a second time, wish Oddball was president back then, would have saved me a few black eyes.” As Cora declared for me, Scones did the same for Demetri; if he strayed, she would be gone, but I don’t see Demetri as that kind of man, not after he didn’t cheat on his ex-wife; she did the cheating. He got rid of her quickly and quietly, with no alimony, from what he told me. One night, when it was just the two of us, the ladies were in the kitchen helping clean up, as they often do.
Neither of us got involved in that conversation; we learned a lot from listening to where their thoughts were and what we can both do to make life better for all of us. Demetri wanted my help as much as I

needed his to keep each other on the right track. We agreed: if we saw something that felt off, we would Talk to each other about it, try to see it from each other’s perspective, and correct anything we agreed
might be interpreted incorrectly. We were both new to this, and neither of us wanted to mess it up.
“Not long now, Cora, maybe half an hour, and we will react the clubhouse,” I announced when there was a gap in their conversation.
“Good, I have a numb-bum, and need to walk.” Cora giggled, causing both Demetri and Scones to laugh.
Arriving was not what we expected. Being close to last to enter, bikes had already filled one side of the car park, avoiding where the rubbish was, and clearly glass glistened or the ground, not something I want to risk running over, and gaining a puncture or two.
I moved to where the workshop was parked. Demetri followed me as we jogged over and met up with Oddball, as he barked out for men to report.
Then, I moved to the security room to check out the footage. Core and Scones stayed out here and helped with the clean-up crew. None of us wanted to start work the moment we arrived after a long day of travelling, but there was nothing any of us could do but bog down and work. Not sure why the men didn’t do a clean-up during the day; to me, they should have, in my opinion.
The footage was clear; we had leads to start with, but something about this was still off. Regardless of the excuse, we didn’t keep the ride a secret; most knew a group of riders would go on the trip. We do this particular ride often.
Why wait for the place to be almost empty?
Did those who came to trash the place think it would be empty, that all the riders had gone on the ride?
Thoughts and questions filled my head, till Oddball interrupted my train of thought, and sent me on an errand to get Cora. My Cora’s investigation skills are outstanding. According to Hacker, he wants her brain in here to think outside the norm, and already knows what he will need her to do.
Found her outside, working with the others, the place already looking better, but that glass was an issue, might have to get one of the sucker machines in, glad the car park is bitumen, if it was gravel, it would have made it difficult, we had the car park area done about four years ago, was a huge improvement, the drive was done a couple of years ago.
Cora didn’t hesitate when I called her in and didn’t ask questions either, as many might have; Cora just obeyed, part of what makes her a good team player, doing what’s needed and adding feedback quietly later, when not too many ears are around. Don’t know if that was from experience or training, but glad for it either way.
We worked till food was ready, and we all went down to eat.
“Leave the rest for later, let’s talk about what we have so far, after we have eaten.” Oddball was working hard on this. I could see Demetri texting on his phone a few times. It was all go. We had unwanted visitors, and all hands on deck. We needed to have the gate repaired; that will be tomorrow. Oddball already organised that; we have members who can sort it and put a stronger gate on. It was on the list of ground improvements; now it has gone up the list to top priority.
In the back room, which was soundproof, we huddled, all the officers, with Demetri and Cora as the only females, which didn’t go unnoticed. Ladies do not attend these meetings, but we need a report on what

her investigation has uncovered so far.

“Agreed, we pull those four men, who are known to us, and send men out to get word from the streets,
bound to have loose tips out there, keep digging. It’s midnight, we have had a long day, get some rest and catch up tomorrow.” Oddball called out after a few hours of bouncing around ideas, and how to contain it to the minimal, till we have a better idea of who the other intruders were. Scrubs and Bluey have been collecting blood samples from the car park. Not a lot out there, but the footage showed at least four blood noses and an idea where we might find blood drops; every little bit counts.
We should have results in a day or two.
I hope the four placed in cells will help.
We still had men in the cells from the shooters.
It’s going to get crowded down there.
Could all this be related?
The shootings, just a cover for something more?
But what, or who, are they after?
The club or someone in the club, or worse, Cora.
No, this all started before Cora came to stay; it can’t be against Cora.
Could it?
