Chapter 156

Demetri POV

The move was happening fast.

Cora announcing her engagement was expected, but I didn’t know when; you could see it in Xavier’s eyes.

Xavier, I hadn’t expected that.

It suits him.

Moving to my home was a dream come true; I’m still amazed that Cora phoned me and started to reunite. I have Ruby, to some extent, to thank for that, and Xavier, both encouraged Cora to get in contact and hear my side of the story. Then they agreed to join our club, which made my dream complete.

“Cora, I own the property next to my house. How about you move in there so you still have your independence, yet you’re close enough to visit often? Also, I have some of my business I want you part of; you will own it all one day, unless we sell it beforehand. Have you thought about what you want to do? We have a wedding to plan; have you thought of when?” I pumped Cora and Xavier with questions while eating the next morning; everything was packed, most already gone. The chopper had left early and would be back in an hour for the last of it.

“That sounds good, Dad. You need alone time with Ruby; job-wise, we can keep an open mind. What’s Ruby wanting to do?”

“Ruby is unsure at this point, but hinting maybe something to do with cooking. Do you want to leave when the chopper returns and is loaded?”

“Xavier? Do you need to see Oddball or anyone at the club?” Cora asked, rubbing his arm for comfort. This move means a lot to him, and I need to keep in mind what he was leaving behind.

“Oddball would have that cut by now, and hasn’t contacted me, nor has anyone else. I feel that says it all. We need to tell the staff here, so they know what’s going on, and to keep any of the club out, as it’s not ours any longer.” Xavier replied with a hitch and stubbornness in his voice.

“Cora? Want to call the staff? The chopper is very close.” I pushed to get it all done; we don’t want to leave problems for staff to clear up.

Chapter 156

Cora called a staff meeting; everyone gathered on the lawn out the front, including the gate staff. Cora informed them of the sale of the property and to whom; she didn’t need to talk about the security of the place; they know the new owner, having met him a few times over the years. Other than asking about the wages and workplace agreements, the change of owners made little impact on them.

“Yes, all the security guards Demetri has here will be gone too; only the house staff will be left until the weekend, when the new owners will move in. He has all the instructions,

employment contracts, codes, and passwords.” Cora explained the timelines and expectations, and that the staff should use today to get the main bedroom cleaned up and the top floor in tip-top shape and ready for the move. She suggested staying out of the office until the new owner has been through it; only Clara has access, so if anything gets moved, it

will come back to her.

The chopper arrived, and the last of the items were loaded into the chopper’s cargo hold.

Some of the men had already left on the other trips, and the last were able to fit in the cargo hold with the gear, with Cora, Ruby, Xavier, and me in the main passenger section. The staff were still on the grass area, waving goodbye. Cora was going to give them a bonus covering the short time she had been living there, not that they had done anything special to deserve it; Cora called it compensation for all the sudden changes they had gone through.

The flight was cheerful; suggestions on the fun the girls would have were heard through the headsets as Cora and Ruby started to plan a party for the engagement. Next weekend, the following weekend would be inducting them into our club, and getting their cut, and new road names. I would provide a list of names I would like to be there, including some of the club’s senior, longtime members, and, regarding the shooters, my men in the field, who should be back to join. We had this weekend to settle in the house, the following for the engagement announcement, and then the club; a lot of weekends are already filled. Presuming nothing pressing or urgent pops up before then.

All these parties already have me exhausted; I was not a party person unless it was business-related and networking, not that I needed to do much of that, once I became a billionaire, they urged me to attend, to gain some notoriety for themselves and use me a a draw card, some I went to, others were not in my line of work or interest, and nothing they offered had me tempted to attend. I get the feeling with Cora and Ruby, a lot of that was about to change. I can visualise galas with our ladies all dressed up, and Xavier and I dressed in our Sunday best, escorting them around a room, proud as punch to have them on our arms, seeing all the men jealous of our beautiful women.

My home came into view.

“Ruby, look below; that’s your new home. Cora, look to the right; that’s your new home. Both have helipads; you can get your own helicopter and stop borrowing mine.” I joked as the girls

and Xavier looked below.

“You will have to take me Helicopter shopping. I know nothing about them, other than yours is huge, like not the little ones you see at theme parks, to take tourists up to see the place from above,” Cora replied. Cora didn’t even blink at the idea of her own helicopter, she doesn’t have a big ego, and so far I have never seen her look down on anyone. She’s rich, but looking at her in her everyday clothes, you wouldn’t know it; she was the most down-to-earth woman I know.

“Love to, maybe Xavier would like to get his pilot license; we have a few experienced pilots that can teach you once you have passed the theory side of it and get your flying hours up quickly.”

“I think I would like to try, if you can point me in the right direction.” Xavier sounded a lot more enthusiastic with that suggestion; he had seemed to be a little lost with where he would fit in with all these changes. I get it; he was taking a big step by coming here and getting engaged, and then what? He didn’t have a direction yet or any tangible goal. Xavier was in a position he had never been in before; it took a huge risk to follow his heart. I respect him for that; something I never had the guts to do. He might be older, but still leaving the only life he had known for love was huge, just like Ruby was doing with me, leaving the life to take on the

unknown.

Both will need something to do, to give them some direction and self-worth.

The chopper landed, and the girls were still chatting, excited at the next step, no matter how daunting it appeared, and both had promised to help each other.

I liked the sound of that, a kind of bonding you can’t force to happen.

The fact that they both get along so well puts me at ease. I want to ask Ruby to marry me and take up that suggestion Cora had given for a double wedding, but am I rushing it? My heart’s all in; now I need to get Ruby on the same page. Hopefully, Cora suggesting a double wedding in front of Ruby might have planted the seed; now I need to cultivate it- woo her. I am not sure how to proceed with this. Women tend to throw themselves at me, making it easy; however, the goal was to bed them. With Ruby, it’s so much more than just wanting to bed her, although that’s never far from my thoughts; my body wants to catch up on all it’s missed over the years.

As much as the tabloids said I was a playboy, that was the furthest away from the truth. I have not bedded as many as the tabloids have said I have, and I think I said this to Cora during one of our evenings together, but I have yet to talk about it to Ruby, and so far she doesn’t appear to care about my past, and I haven’t delved too deeply into hers. When Ruby’s ready, she will talk about her past. I get snippets when something happens that surprises her, but nothing in depth, just the odd comment that gives me a hint of the hurt she has been
