Chapter 157

Xavier (Gunner) POV

The excitement about the move was obvious in the girls; while I sat quietly, like Demetri, listening to them prattle on all the way to the new place.

I had mixed thoughts.

Part of me was worried for the club members and Demetri’s men who were out, doing undercover work, hunting these shooters. The other part was trying not to feel like I was abandoning the members, like who was going to clean up the cells now, and dispose of the bodies, it had been me for years, but the way the Oddball stormed out, giving me the dirty look as he left, and then never calling me, to talk about what went down, or tell me where I stand now, it hurt, like really hurt deep inside. I have lost a good friend over this, more than one, when they are informed that I have left the area, and Oddball will slant his own bias on

any explanation. I have tried to hide how I am feeling and what’s going on in my head from Cora and Ruby.

I think Demetri might recognise that I am hurting inside.

The sight of the homestead perked me up a little; there were huge blocks of land, massive houses, and sheds, and it all looked amazing-plenty of room to spread my wings. I am also wrapped that Demetri was going to help me get my pilot’s license; I never dreamed of something like this. I have money; I am not broke, and selling the shop made me more. I just haven’t ever thought of doing anything other than being a mechanic and working with the club. I have to agree with Cora when she said, ‘It would do both of us good, getting away from what we have been comfortable doing and doing something completely different that it would take my mind off what was being left behind. It’s not running away, as much as finding a new exciting direction.’ Cora was right; something new was exactly what I needed. I have *been doing the same thing all my life, and it has become a habit, but it hasn’t completely

taken my mind off yet. Cora understands broken trust and betrayal and was trying hard to comfort me and distract me.

We landed, and I helped Cora out of the chopper as Demetri did the same for Ruby; they were still prattling on, with plans, which had Demetri smiling as we walked towards the door, where staff were waiting for us.

“Welcome back, Sir.” A woman stepped forward and bowed; the others bowed along with her.

“Thank you. That woman is back in the sitting room, sir. She has been here since yesterday and has been hard to get rid of.”

“I will deal with her. Aggie, this is Ruby, my girlfriend and future wife, my Daughter Cora and her fiancé Xavier.” Demetri introduced them to the staff. Behind us, the men continued to

unload the Helicopter.

“As you wish, the staff from next door will be here in an hour.” Aggie bowed again, turned and clapped her hands, dismissing the staff, who bowed and returned to their duties.

“Ruby, I have a woman in the sitting room who I had drunkenly slept with one night, now thinks she can come here and disrupt the household whenever she wants, and my staff have difficulty getting rid of her. Since I have been rarely here lately, she has been trying to make it her home and can be rather annoying. The guards were unsure how to handle her, since the woman’s last lie was to say she was carrying my child. I had advised them to leave her be, and I would sort it today. Would you like to chuck the viper out?”

“Gently, or heavy-handed?” Ruby asked, looking around the entrance. Having moved inside the front door, the place looked lived in; nothing as I had expected from Demetri. He didn’t fill the place with a lot of expensive items that you would be too afraid to touch. Some were very old, yes, but used, clean, tidy, as you would expect, but comfortable and warm; you felt

welcome.

“Any way you like, this house is your home, and that woman is unwelcome, never has been, and only arrives when I am not here, so someone might be informing her when the house is empty. Please do some sleuthing, and if you do not like or feel it is off, please let them go; you are the boss of the household now. I want you to be comfortable.” Demetri calmly explained; it did sound like an insider was aiding this squatter. Demetri guided Ruby to the sitting room; we followed, and so did several staff, the head, Aggie, and two other older ladies who looked like they would love nothing more than seeing this woman physically chucked out of the place.

The woman was sprawled out on the lounge chair, drink in hand, reading a glossy magazine, with remnants of something she’d eaten on the coffee table. She didn’t look up when we entered; most likely, she assumed we were staff. The arrival of the choppers wouldn’t have alerted her, as they’d been back and forth bringing our belongings, and inside the house, if the

windows are closed, little sound comes in.

“Stephenie, making yourself at home, I see,” Demetri growled, causing her to glance up from her magazine, looking at Demetri as if he had interrupted something important.

“Of course this is my home after all.”

“What gives you that idea?”

“The baby I am carrying, of course.” She smirked and took another sip of her drink.

“I suggest you get up off that lounge and leave, or you will be forcibly removed,” Ruby ordered in a polite, firm voice.

“Nope,” Stephenie replied and flipped another page of the magazine.

“Xavier, would you be so kind as to remove this vermin?” Ruby requested, surprising me that she wanted me to do it.

“My pleasure, if that’s okay with you, babe?” I looked at Cora, who nodded, before I stepped forward, snatched the magazine out of her hands, and threw it on the table, grabbed her by an arm and lifted her off the lounge, she weighed a little more than I thought she would, and I felt my shoulder complain, reminding me that it’s had a few too many dislocations over the years, and the angle was wrong. I let go of her when I felt the twinge. I needed to get back into the gym and strengthen that shoulder back up; it’s been too long, and I’ve missed a lot of

serious training time since meeting Cora-time to fix that.

“Hey,” Stephenie screamed out, complaining. I reached down with both arms this time and pulled her up and over my good shoulder, and carried her, screaming, kicking her legs, and thumping my back, as I removed her. Her hits were not hard enough to cause me any great pain; I have had worse in fights. The staff moved aside to let me through the hall and to the front door. Demetri, Cora and Ruby followed me. I dumped her on the floor at the bottom of the front steps, another painful scream from her, and tears from where she lay crying out

words that most men don’t use. Ruby threw her bag at her.

“Demetri, our baby.” She sobbed. I could almost believe she was pregnant.

“Send me the DNA proof that the baby is Demetri’s, and I might adopt it, but you, my dear, are never to set foot in this place ever again. This is my home, and you are not welcome. Theirs the gate; you have ten minutes to limp out that gate before I have Xavier pick you up and throw you out the gate.” Ruby was way too polite as she spoke, almost friendly.

The woman sat crying, begging Demetri, but he had returned to the house with Ruby, leaving me to stand and watch her, waiting for her to leave, my eyes glancing at my watch, in a dramatic show of watching the ten minutes count down.

After a few more colourful choice words, I watched the woman pick up her purse, call someone as she limped down the drive, towards the gate. I followed a few feet behind her, ensuring she was leaving. The guards at the gate were standing watching, waiting, a smirk on their faces. It looked like everyone was happy to see this woman leave; the idea of a baby must have kept them from touching her. Too many lawsuits could arise if she did, but I didn’t care; she was an intruder, and that’s how you handle them.

At the gate, she turned one last time, screaming I would be sorry, and a car came and took her away.

“How did she get inside?”

“She hid in the back of a delivery van; even the van driver was shocked to see her emerge from the back of it, and none of us was game to touch her if she really was carrying his child.” I nodded and turned back to the house. It felt good to be needed.
