Chapter 159
Cora POV

The house was perfect; the main bedroom was mainly decorated in neutral tones. It was perfect; like someone knew my style and favourite colour, there was little I would want to change, and it didn’t take long for the clothes to be put away, as Xavier and I worked as a team; we had preferred sides of the cupboards, and bed, I liked to sleep near the window, and he liked to be facing the door, think he believes danged would burst through a door, than scale the walls to the balcony.
“Nice view, and I like the large balcony and hot tub out there. I can see us using that. Did you notice it had roller blinds to close off the balcony area, shielding the balcony from the weather, perfect for when we climb in that tub. The blinds are clear; we could still see out, and I wonder if it has that material that makes the other side like a mirror, so you can’t see in. We’ll have to drop them down and check it out from outside and see.” Xavier called out from the balcony as I finished setting up the bathroom.
“Yes, why not lower them halfway and lean over and see? Would that work? I would like us to use that gym; you can teach me how to use some of those machines. I have never bothered with a gym before never had the time to go to one, and I was too embarrassed to use the one at the clubhouse, although I didn’t mind watching others using them. Yum.”
“Trying to make me jealous?” Xavier asked, staring at me, trying to look stern, but failed terribly.
“Did it work?” I grinned, unable to stop my amusement from showing. No one’s been jealous of me watching other guys before.
“Maybe.” He prowled towards me, and that look on his face had my panties moist.
“Sure.” I retorted in disbelief.
“Okay, okay, definitely.” He threw his arms up in the air as a gesture of surrender.
“Want to sort out your office before we go next door?” Xavier asked as he reached me, pulling me into his chest, and nuzzling my neck, nibbling my ear.
“Sure. The more we get done now, before dinner, the better.” Pushing him gently, before we get distracted and end up in bed.
When we reached the office, the door was ajar and was full of boxes, more than I remembered packing. I hadn’t expected the door to be open; it must have been Drew, as he would be the only person who could access all of the house. He was hand-picked by Dad to

run the household; all of this staff was, and no one was left from the previous owners.
“Are there some of yours in here?” I stared at some of the boxes, in disbelief, not recognising some of them.
“Um, looks like it. I did have some shop paperwork that I didn’t want left at the shop; I started packing them up when we moved into the other house, leaving less and less at the shop, as well as the workshop at the clubhouse, my personal paperwork, tax records, that sort of thing. I was doing a clean-up, and didn’t have a chance to go through all of this before deciding to sell and move out of the house, and then us moving happened so quickly, I had to bring it with me.” Xavier started to separate the boxes that were his.
“Let’s get them in the office next door; that can be your office, and you can go through everything at your speed, no rush.” That’s what we did: moved all his boxes to the other room, setting them on the floor for Xavier to sort through later.
“Wow, I am spoilt; this room is as big as yours, and nearly double the size of my old offices combined.” Xavier grinned as we moved his boxes to one side of the room.
“You need your own space; even have a small safe over there.” I gave Xavier the passwords and codes before he closed the door to his office and returned to my office, and began to finish off this room, putting files in the filing cabinet and books on the shelves; it took longer than I wanted, but at least it was done, I have my own computer, but will set them both up, keep this one for running the house, and the other for my personal work, until I get myself sorted out.
We were finishing up when Xavier’s phone rang.
“Yes,” Xavier answered with a bit of heat after seeing who was ringing and pushed it on speaker so I could hear too. Xavier’s tone of voice had me pulling out my phone to record this conversation. It was instinct; the look on Xavier’s face and the tone of his voice said it was
an unwanted call, or maybe he didn’t want to talk right now.
Then Oddball’s commanding voice barked out.
“Gunner, come to my office; we need to talk. NOW” Oddball’s harsh voice on the other side was loud and sounded angry, not regretful, about how he left us.
“No,” Xavier answered with the same heat; his thumb hovered over the red cancel button.
“You accused Bluey of BETRAYAL, of theft, and that something really dishonourable, and she’s innocent; you need to apologise to her, because she’s now in tears over it, heartbroken, that you could suggest such a thing of her.” Oddball sounded like he was spitting saliva everywhere as he spoke, yelled over the phone.

“No,” Xavier answered again.

“Gunner, this is an order, not a request. Get yourself over here and apologise, and all will be forgiven.” Oddball continued with words I won’t repeat.
“You got the cut?”
“Yes, and the transfer paperwork, which I have torn up. Get your arse over here now, and don’t bring that lying bitch with you.” Then the phone went dead, me a lying B, really? He got that
wrong.
“Guess he doesn’t know we have moved. Oddball will be in for a shock then, won’t he?” I
rubbed Xavier’s arm; he was breathing heavily through his nose. I could guess he was mentally counting to ten before releasing one long breath. I didn’t mention Bluey or the fact that he more or less called Xavier a liar to his proverbial face.
“Do you think he realises he just called me a liar?” Xavier asked, having pulled me to him and rested his head on my shoulder.
“Nope, he has no idea, and he either prefers to believe Bluey, or he is in on it,” I replied as the idea of his being in on it sank in.
“In on it? Can we start a check on him and Bluey? I don’t think we have done a check on our people because we never doubted them.” Xavier had gotten control and was back into investigation mode.
“Yes, I can, but I feel we’d better go next door and tell Dad; he needs to know his men are out there at risk, and if part of the risk is internal, they are in the crossfire. I wouldn’t be able to sleep if one of them got hurt because I failed to inform them of what we think. I could be completely wrong, but until it’s proven one way or the other, the men need to know and change how they are hiding, because someone’s got to watch their backs.” I locked the door, and we hurried to our car, glad that Dad had brought over, and rushed next door; it wasn’t far to walk, but time might be important here, and driving would be quicker than the
five-to-ten-minute walk.
Dad was in an office, taking Ruby through some of the programs on the computer, when we
walked in.
“Hi, didn’t expect you for another hour.” Ruby greeted us, while Dad looked at us, already picking up that something was wrong.
Xavier closed the door.
“Cora, play the recording. Please.”

I pulled out my phone and played it to them. Dad cursed under his breath, while Ruby used a few words that I hadn’t heard her use before.
“What’s your take on that?” Xavier asked Dad, not giving out what I had said yet.
“Well, he just called you a liar, and doesn’t know you are not living close, and ripping up the transfer papers won’t do him any good, because our side had processed it and filed it away as done; his side doesn’t matter. It was courtesy, rather than needing him to respond.” Dad was scratching his chin as he spoke, his mind still taking it all in.
“Cora came up with another angle.” Xavier filled Dad in, and he had no sooner finished explaining than Dad picked up his phone and told him to pull the men back and why. They talked for a bit longer before he hung up.
“They still have those men in the cells; if it’s a double cross, then those men were sent to their deaths too,” Dad said, and I had thought of that.
