Sebastian's expression barely changed, but his dark, deep-set eyes settled on Raelynn with a clear hint of displeasure.
Julian and Leo froze.
Wasn't Raelynn being a little too harsh?
Was this a new, calculating tactic to grab Sebastian's attention?
And a public apology?
Wasn't that just a deliberate attempt to publicly smear Seraphina Vance?
Seraphina's face fell. Looking like a complete victim, she forced a tight smile. "Raelynn, haven't you made enough of a scene?"
Raelynn saw her self-righteous look and marveled at her ability to play the victim.
If people wanted to believe a lie, she wasn't going to waste an ounce of energy trying to explain herself.
They were getting divorced anyway; getting tangled up with terrible people would only give her a headache.
Raelynn turned to leave.
But as she walked past Sebastian, the man's cold eyes locked onto her. A faint, unreadable smirk tugged at his lips.
He spoke slowly, "Is this some kind of act?"
Raelynn didn't process it for a second. "What?"
Sebastian's eyes narrowed with a mocking glint. "Why aren't you arguing back now?"
Wasn't she just acting so tough?
Raelynn understood, and a lump formed in her throat.
She was being provoked.
Every single emotion she showed—whether it was hysteria, a breakdown, or just numb, desperate surrender—was nothing but a manipulative scheme in his eyes?
Even if she were so furious she was practically dying inside, he would just call it "acting."
She wasn't like Seraphina, who had the confidence of a whole crowd backing her up.
Arguing further would only make her look more pathetic.
Besides.
Sebastian thought she was still "making a scene," scolding her for being unreasonable.
No matter what she said or did, he wouldn't believe a word of it.
Why waste her breath?
She slowly calmed down, drained of the energy to fight, and gave a compliant nod. "Then I wish you both the best. Is that enough?"
Regardless of his reaction, she walked away without looking back.
Three months—
Sebastian was standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows, holding his phone up in a video call. In a flashing glimpse of the screen, Raelynn saw Seraphina's face.
They looked like... a couple deeply in love, wanting to see each other every second of the day.
Sebastian frowned at her. In a cold, flat tone, he asked, "Why didn't you knock?"
The question stunned Raelynn.
She was his wife, standing in the home she had lived in for seven years, and suddenly, because he was having a passionate romance with Seraphina, there was a new rule about knocking?
"Get out!" Sebastian ordered sharply.
As if she had come here specifically to eavesdrop.
Raelynn's heart violently contracted.
Instinctively, she stepped back and closed the door.
She wasn't a masochist; she didn't need to force herself into the front row to hear how sweet her husband's affair was.
Downstairs.
The housekeeper, Mary, heard the commotion and walked out.
Seeing her, Mary immediately said, "Mrs. Croix, Grandma is on the phone."
Raelynn glanced at the landline in the living room.

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
