She didn't need a single reminder of how desperately Sebastian spoiled Seraphina.
Even worse...
"We don't want it. Take it back. Lynnie is deathly allergic to mangoes," Preston snapped, walking over from the living room with a dark expression.
The staff member looked startled. "I apologize. Mr. Croix wasn't aware. Please don't be offended."
Raelynn let out a breathy laugh, a mix of pure self-deprecation and sarcasm. "It's fine. It's completely normal that he wouldn't know."
After the waiter left, Raelynn felt a sharp throb in her temples. Her brain had already been working on overdrive trying to develop the new formula, and now Sebastian had to pop up out of nowhere just to make her miserable.
"You're allergic to mangoes and he has absolutely no idea?" Preston handed her a glass of water, his face tight with anger.
What kind of sick joke was this? Sending a cake made specifically to pamper his mistress straight to his legal wife? Was Raelynn's life just a joke to him? It was completely humiliating.
Raelynn sat back down and flipped open the pharmacology report. "His mind has never been on me. Why would he know?"
This wasn't like remembering what dishes she didn't like at a dinner table—any observant person could pick that up just by watching her eat. But knowing what foods were actively lethal to her required actual care, communication, and a desire to understand her. It required love.
And that was the fundamental difference between her and Seraphina.
"But you literally saved his life. How can Sebastian be so cold to you?" Preston demanded, his tone laced with heavy indignation.
Saved his life...
Raelynn's eyes lost focus for a moment. That had been over ten years ago.
