Glancing at the screen, she was surprised to see messages from the wealthy playboys in Sebastian's inner circle—guys she practically never spoke to.
[Mrs. Croix, you have to come to Jenna's baby celebration. It won't be a real party without you.]
She stared at the message, taken aback that they would invite her. Then, her phone vibrated again. It was a direct iMessage from Jenna.
[Lynnie, I'm finally recovered from the birth! The baby's celebration is today at The Starlight Grand Hotel. You absolutely have to come.]
Jenna was the only woman in that elite crowd who had ever met Raelynn in person and genuinely hit it off with her. The rest of the socialites she had added online were little more than digital strangers. Sebastian never brought her to his social gatherings, so none of his friends actually knew what his wife looked like. Jenna was the sole exception, thanks to a chance encounter.
Raelynn really liked Jenna, considering her a good friend. After a moment of thought, she replied: [Sounds great. I'll be there.]
The baby celebration was a lavish affair. "Man, look at my stupid memory," one of them groaned, dragging a hand down his face. "I sent the iMessage to the wrong person. I actually invited Raelynn Ortiz. You don't think she's seriously going to show up, do you?"
Raelynn froze in her tracks, remaining perfectly still.
Another guy laughed, slapping his buddy's shoulder. "Are you out of your mind? When has Mr. Croix ever brought his so-called wife to a public event? How do you even mess up calling the wrong woman 'Mrs. Croix'?"
"Am I going to be the bad guy tonight? Sebastian is bringing Ms. Vance. If Raelynn actually shows up and makes a scene, how am I supposed to explain that to Seraphina? I can't guarantee Raelynn won't let her jealousy get the better of her and try to start a catfight."
"Jenna, come over here and meet Ms. Vance! We finally get to see her in person," one of the men called out, interrupting her.
Sebastian's gaze drifted over lazily, locking onto Raelynn for a few heavy seconds. Raelynn could read the subtle shift in his eyes. He was clearly surprised to see her and distinctly displeased by her presence. Beside him, Seraphina's perfectly sculpted brows knit together in a discreet frown.
*What is Raelynn doing here?* Seraphina thought. *Is this really a place she belongs?*
The other men finally noticed the stunning woman standing next to Jenna. Their eyes widened in clear appreciation. "Jenna, who's your gorgeous friend?"
Jenna used to believe in the sanctity of true love, but years of marriage in this elite circle had opened her eyes. She had developed a profound disgust for homewreckers. Glancing dismissively at Seraphina, she ignored the men's question and looked straight at Sebastian.
"Mr. Croix, aren't you going to introduce us?" Jenna asked, her tone dripping with mock curiosity. "Who is this woman on your arm? I don't believe we've met."

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....

I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
