Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 144

Before Raelynn could even process who had spoken, she was yanked out of the line of fire by her arm. By the time she regained her balance and looked back in shock, the sickening sound of fists pounding into flesh echoed through the corridor.

Luke Sterling had appeared out of nowhere. He had the man who grabbed her pinned down, raining merciless blows on him as the guy's agonizing screams echoed through the air.

Guests from the baby celebration poured out into the hall, quickly forming a tight circle around the commotion. Standing squarely in the center of the storm, Raelynn felt the heavy, judgmental stares of the crowd bearing down on her. A sharp headache began to throb at her temples.

She stepped forward, desperately grabbing Luke's arm. "Mr. Sterling! What the hell are you doing?"

She truly couldn't fathom what was going through his head. They weren't friends. Every interaction they'd ever had bordered on hostile. So why was he suddenly playing her violent protector?

Luke, however, was completely unhinged, convinced he was punishing a predator who dared to touch her. Refusing to loosen his grip on the bloody man, he blindly swung his arm back to shake Raelynn off.

Though tall, Raelynn had a slender frame. The force of his shove sent her stumbling backward, her heels skidding against the marble until she barely managed to catch her balance.

"Mr. Sterling, you need to—" she started, desperate to shut this down before it completely ruined Jenna's milestone event.

But as she lifted her head, her words died in her throat. Across the chaotic circle of bystanders, her eyes locked dead onto Sebastian.

Unlike the eager onlookers, he stood slightly apart, a solitary force radiating an imposing, unapproachable aura. His dark eyes swept over the scene with chilling detachment. She had no idea how long he had been standing there or if he had watched his own wife being harassed and shoved.

But whatever the truth was, it didn't change his reaction: absolute, freezing apathy.

He didn't intervene. He didn't help. He didn't defend her.
