Seraphina immediately understood the underlying threat. She assumed Preston Moreno must be frustrated with the delays and had sent Raelynn to play the bad cop, though she doubted Preston had instructed Raelynn to be this vicious. In her eyes, Raelynn was just a nobody at NexusMind, using company business as a thin excuse to lash out!
At the mention of "doing charity work," Sebastian slowly twirled a silver pen between his fingers. His piercing gaze slid toward Raelynn as he spoke in a slow, deliberate drawl. "Jack, get Ms. Ortiz a cup of tea. Help her cool off."
The words were utterly loaded.
It was a blatant, mocking jab at her temper. Raelynn's brow furrowed. He was openly defending Seraphina, publicly stating that Raelynn was being too aggressive and unreasonable.
Seraphina, knowing she had Sebastian's total backing, instantly lifted her chin in triumph. "It's fine, Sebastian. I'll skip catching up on my sleep and head straight back to the lab to manage the team. I wouldn't want people twisting the facts and accusing me of slacking off."
She snatched up her designer blazer and strutted toward the door, the sharp click of her heels echoing on the hardwood. As she walked past Raelynn, she shot her a look dripping with disdain, letting out a cold, victorious scoff before leaving the office.
Raelynn couldn't have cared less. She had accomplished exactly what she came to do.
When Assistant Jack timidly approached and actually placed a cup of green tea on the table in front of her, she accepted it without a word.
Sebastian could let his infatuation turn him into a fool who indulged Seraphina's every whim, but NexusMind wasn't running a daycare. They had zero obligation to coddle her. And if Sebastian was so heartbroken over Seraphina pulling all-nighters, he was more than welcome to sacrifice his own sleep to hold her hand in the lab every night.
With the message delivered, Raelynn prepared to leave.
But before she could even stand up, Sebastian pushed back his chair, walked around his massive desk, and gracefully took a seat in the single armchair to her left. He looked at her with an unreadable expression. "Aren't you exhausted from talking so much? You can finish the tea before you go."
His face gave away absolutely nothing.
Raelynn's internal alarms blared. Was he keeping her here to spring a trap? Was he plotting a way to put her back in her place to avenge his precious girlfriend?
She cast a highly suspicious look at the teacup. She seriously doubted they were currently on "sit down and share a quiet cup of tea" terms.
