Knowing Preston's fiery temper...
Raelynn could already picture exactly how that would play out.
That afternoon.
Chloe Hudson burst through the door the moment she finished editing her video.
She immediately rushed over, full of nervous energy. "How did it go? Did he make things hard for you? Did he try to win you back?"
After all, it wasn't a brief fling. It was seven years of marriage.
Win her back?
Raelynn thought of Sebastian's cold, strictly-business demeanor during the negotiation.
It was incredibly rare for a married couple to act so thoroughly indifferent to each other.
She handed the divorce agreement to Chloe. "It went pretty smoothly. We both wanted out. As for me... I basically struck gold overnight. Lily is officially an heiress now. She has enough money for her wedding, her future kids, and enough left over to let our future generations live comfortably without ever working a day."
Chloe's jaw dropped when she saw the traditional luxury estate listed in the assets.
She covered her mouth in shock. "This mansion is one of the most exclusive properties in Kingsford! It's worth even more than the cash payout! And with the shares in Croix Holdings, the dividends alone will keep you filthy rich for the next ten lifetimes!"
"How did a ruthless tycoon like him, from a terrifying dynasty like the Croix family, let you walk away with such an insane payout?"
Marrying into a family like that was hard enough, but leaving was notoriously brutal.
Even women from equally powerful families were usually bled dry during a divorce, let alone someone like Raelynn, who had zero backing.
Normally, they would have chewed her up and spit out the bones.
Raelynn understood that perfectly well.
If they hadn't, the former chairman wouldn't have forced her to sign a prenup that left her with a paltry three million dollars.
To the Croix family, their daily expenses exceeded three million. That was basically treating her like a beggar.
But now...
She let out a bitter laugh. "It's because Sebastian's affair with Seraphina is a massive scandal. Getting involved with his prospective sister-in-law crosses all moral boundaries. They can't afford to let it blow up. He's paying a premium in hush money, and the Croix family is too humiliated to stop him."
At the end of the day.
If Sebastian had cheated with literally any other woman, the Croix family would never have given her a dime.
But matters of the heart were unpredictable.
This affair was highly unethical; some in their circles would even call it borderline incestuous.
It was The Courtyard Bistro, tucked away in a quiet alley. Lily was absolutely obsessed with their desserts.
It was strictly reservation-only.
However, Chloe was a VIP member, so they could usually walk in and get a table without an issue.
They parked and headed inside.
The manager immediately rushed over, looking incredibly apologetic. "I am so sorry, ladies, but we are completely fully booked today."
Raelynn glanced around. The beautiful dining areas overlooking the indoor stream and miniature bridges were entirely empty.
"But there's no one here?"
The manager quickly explained, "Yes, well, a very important client has booked the entire venue for a private event, so we cannot accept any other guests tonight. I beg your pardon."
Chloe frowned. "Who is it? Can we work something out? Our little girl absolutely adores your desserts. We just need a tiny corner table, and I swear we won't bother them at all."
The manager nervously glanced toward the second floor. "Have you ladies ever heard of Mr. Croix from Croix Holdings?"
"He's hosting a massive celebration party for his girlfriend tonight. We are expecting a huge turnout, and we have to decorate the entire restaurant exactly to his specifications. There will be ribbons and floral arrangements everywhere. I am truly sorry, but we simply cannot accommodate you."
The relaxed smile on Raelynn's face slowly faded.
