Lily would often look at her with those exact same eyes, sweetly calling her Mommy.
Seraphina stared at the conscious child, pressing her lips together tightly before shooting a grim look at Raelynn.
She knew Raelynn had done grunt work in the ER for a few years, but her skills had to be limited.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have been stuck in that dead-end job with no promotions or growth.
But right now...
It looked as if Raelynn was the one who had saved the girl.
Where did that leave her?
Seraphina frowned, staying quiet.
Standing behind Sebastian, his assistant, Quinn, instantly read the look on Seraphina's face.
He quickly checked his boss's indifferent expression and, ever the opportunist, spoke up on Sebastian's behalf. "Thank goodness for Ms. Vance's extensive experience. It looks like the treatment she applied earlier just had a delayed effect."
Quinn had been working for Sebastian for years.
He obviously knew who Raelynn was.
But so what?
Mr. Croix had never cared about Raelynn anyway.
Why let Raelynn steal Ms. Vance's spotlight?
Hearing that, Seraphina raised an eyebrow.
Her smiling eyes drifted to Sebastian's handsome face. She knew Quinn was Sebastian's most trusted confidant, which meant Quinn's words reflected Sebastian's will.
Sebastian remained completely unreadable, making no move to stop Quinn from speaking.
He didn't even glance at Raelynn.
It looked like silent permission, a complete endorsement.
Seeing Sebastian's cold reaction, Leo was highly amused.
He threw a laughing look at Raelynn, who was still kneeling awkwardly on the ground.
Raelynn had been scrambling around for nothing; it was all entirely useless.
A real doctor didn't save lives for the applause.
She certainly wasn't going to waste her energy listening to them kiss Seraphina's ass.
The winter air in Kingsford was biting.
Raelynn quickly grabbed the child's shoes and socks and carefully put them back on, meticulously tucking her pants into her socks to keep out the cold. Her movements were incredibly practiced and smooth.
Crying tears of joy, the young mother stared at Raelynn's face and couldn't help but ask, "Are you married? Do you have kids? Because you're better at taking care of her than I am."
That single sentence.
Raelynn's spine stiffened instantly.
Alarm bells shrieked in her head, and the hairs on her arms stood on end.
She could feel a probing gaze locking onto her from behind.
Standing not too far away, Sebastian had heard the question clearly.
His deep, piercing eyes cut through the crowd, landing intently on the back of Raelynn's head.
