Back in Kingsford.
Seraphina Vance accompanied Sebastian Croix on a trip to Longstride Technologies.
Leo Flynn was with them.
In The Rest Area.
"Would you like to come over for a casual dinner at my place tonight? I was planning to have Sebastian come home with me," Seraphina said, a hint of bashfulness coloring her cheeks.
Leo was quick to read the room.
He set down his teacup and chuckled. "You two are going home to see the parents. Why would I crash that? I'd just be a third wheel."
Seraphina couldn't help but laugh. "It's nothing like that, just dinner. My mom took a fall downstairs yesterday, so we're just checking on her."
"Is it serious?"
"A slight bone fracture in her leg. We need to find a good hospital to get her admitted for observation."
Leo thought for a moment. "Covenant Medical's orthopedics department is top-tier. Why not go there?"
At the mention of Covenant Medical, Seraphina smiled faintly, a spark of amusement in her eyes. "They're probably still scrambling to handle Shane's incident. After all, Preston is the heir to Covenant Medical, and NexusMind is doing their clinical trials there. They're tied together for better or worse."
In her mind, she had already done Covenant a massive favor by giving them an easy out.
She hadn't called the police, hadn't sued, and hadn't publicly damaged their reputation. Even though it was a medical accident, Covenant would owe her one. Eventually, NexusMind would fire Raelynn and invite her back to join the project as compensation.
That would also make up for Shane trashing Director Moreno's office and offending everyone.
"Raelynn even went on a business trip to Seaport City with Preston. From the looks of it, it's a desperate last resort. Preston has to look at the big picture—financing and getting the drug to market."
Leo agreed that the outcome was practically set in stone.
Since Covenant was involved, throwing an outcast like Raelynn under the bus to take the fall was the most logical solution.
He shook his head, sighing softly.
When would the cycle of revenge end? Raelynn had racked her brain to force Seraphina out, and now she was left with nothing.
Seraphina would undoubtedly be invited back to the R&D team with open arms.
Seraphina arched an eyebrow and took a sip of tea.
She was in a great mood.
NexusMind's new cardiovascular drug project was incredibly prestigious. Getting her name on it was exactly what she needed—a golden stepping stone for her career.
