But the other children always had their parents with them...
Raelynn felt a pang of sorrow.
Lily had always been so mature. Even with such a simple wish, she remained so well-behaved.
"Okay, I promise," she said, her heart melting with a bittersweet ache.
"Tsk, why is it you, you bad woman? Why are you her parent?"
A child's voice piped up from the side.
Raelynn frowned and glanced over.
Shane Vance had already been discharged from the hospital. He looked a little thinner, but given his sturdy build, it wasn't very noticeable. Even his recovery from the illness was remarkably fast.
Right now, he was glaring at her with utter arrogance.
Raelynn asked Lily, "Is he your classmate?"
Lily nodded. "We're in the same class."
This caught Raelynn completely off guard.
When Sebastian pulled strings to get Shane back into the school, she figured they wouldn't run into each other much. She never expected them to end up in the exact same class.
Raelynn ignored the boy.
She took Lily's hand and led her to the side.
Her eyes scanned their surroundings. "Sweetie, do you want to play a game with me?"
Lily nodded excitedly. "Okay!"
Raelynn wasn't sure who from the Vance family would show up for Shane's Parents' Day.
Out of caution, she patiently explained, "Let's play a game where we aren't allowed to say the word 'Mom,' alright? From now until the end of the event, if you succeed, I'll take a whole day off to take you to the amusement park. How does that sound?"
Lily was instantly fired up. "I'm going to win!"
She rarely got to play alone with her mother. She was determined to win.
Raelynn finally felt a bit of relief.
Running into Shane was entirely unexpected. She was only one step away from finalizing her divorce, and her natural caution wouldn't allow for any mistakes.
Just as she took Lily's hand to head to the classroom, she came face-to-face with the center of attention—the "family of three."
Among the crowd of parents, Sebastian was strikingly handsome, instantly catching the eye. He looked so relaxed, as if it wasn't his first time here. He and Seraphina Vance each held one of Shane's hands.
