Shane was instantly terrified.
His chubby face flushed bright red as he quickly looked around.
Making sure no other kids had heard.
Raelynn almost laughed.
See?
Never mind the excuse that a child didn't know better. He knew exactly how indefensible his sister's actions were, and he knew it was shameful.
"Raelynn! Is it really necessary to talk to a child like that? Does bullying a kid give you a sense of achievement?" Seraphina walked over just in time to hear, her face cold with reprimand.
Sebastian lifted his gaze and looked in their direction.
"Oh," Raelynn scoffed. "If you keep shouting, the whole school will know you're perfectly happy being someone's mistress."
Seraphina's lips tightened.
She frowned in displeasure.
Raelynn was so blinded by jealousy that she would say absolutely anything.
At the same time, Raelynn felt Sebastian's intense stare on her.
Dark and impenetrable.
She knew perfectly well that even if she announced on the spot that she was Mrs. Croix, Sebastian wouldn't acknowledge it. Instead, he would side with Seraphina and humiliate her. She had at least that much self-awareness.
Without another word, she grabbed Lily's hand and walked away.
Lily cooperated entirely, striding away with authority. Her small face was tense and serious, refusing to spare them a single glance.
Out of the corner of his eye, Sebastian caught a glimpse of Lily's small retreating figure.
He paused for a few seconds.
-
The kindergarten was crowded today.
Afraid that Lily might be thirsty, Raelynn told her to wait on a chair while she went to fetch her thermos from the cubby.
The moment Raelynn left.
Sebastian stepped out of the classroom.
He had just taken an unexpected work call.
After ending the call.
He noticed Lily sitting quietly in the hallway, head bowed as she played with her little Rubik's Cube.
His long legs halted without reason.
Changing direction, he walked over and stopped in front of her.
