Raelynn completely ignored Seraphina and didn't even spare a glance for Sebastian.
She couldn't care less about their picture-perfect little 'family' moment.
She leaned down until she was eye-level with Shane's chubby face. "Yeah, I'm the bad lady. But you're a mean, ugly little brat. With your terrible genes, no girl will ever look twice at you. You'll grow up to be a bottom-feeder, just like your sister."
She honestly felt like a cartoon villain right now, actively destroying a child's innocent worldview and wrecking someone else's 'happy home.'
Seraphina's smile instantly vanished, her face turning ice-cold.
She knew exactly what Raelynn was doing—insulting all three of them in one breath!
Shane didn't understand all the big words, but a kid his age had enough pride to know what 'ugly' and 'no one will like you' meant. His face flushed bright red, and he immediately burst into tears.
He started screaming at the top of his lungs, absolutely bawling.
Through his blubbering, he aggressively yanked on Sebastian's hand, begging for backup: "Hit her! Hit her! Make her get on her knees and say sorry... waaaah!"
Sebastian’s gaze hardened as he stared coldly at Raelynn. "Fighting with a little kid. How old are you?"
Blame.
It was always just blame.
Like she was supposed to just stand there and take the abuse for no reason.
Like she was born to be walked all over, her dignity completely irrelevant.
A sharp spike of pain lodged in Raelynn's chest. She looked up at him. Sometimes, when you're so furious, all you can do is laugh—and that's exactly what she did. "You're the one trying to play step-dad, right? You're failing at teaching him basic manners, so I stepped in to help. The least you could do is say thank you."
Maybe it was her total 'unreasonableness' that made the temperature in Sebastian's eyes drop to freezing.
Seraphina picked up the still-screaming Shane and glared at Raelynn. "Raelynn, he's just a child. Taking your anger out on him is pathetic."
As she spoke.
Seraphina's eyes darted to the phone in Raelynn's hand, and she suddenly narrowed her eyes. "Actually, I have reason to believe you were secretly recording our private conversation. I'm going to need you to let us check your phone."
Raelynn almost laughed out loud at the sheer, unadulterated audacity.
"Not a ch—"
Before she could even finish the word, before her brain could even register the movement.
The phone was violently snatched out of her hand.
Sebastian had closed the distance between them in a flash.
Holding Raelynn's phone, without a single second of hesitation, he smoothly typed in her passcode and unlocked the screen.
Watching him do it, Raelynn felt like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over her head.
Every single bone in her body felt like it was shattering from the cold.
A wave of sheer, unadulterated humiliation washed over her, like she had just been stripped naked in front of a crowd.
She had never hidden a single secret from Sebastian. To him, she was completely transparent.
