Dr. Hayes had never been one to mince words or care about social niceties.
Especially since she had deduced that Seraphina was not his legal wife, her disdain was palpable.
The sweet, docile smile Seraphina had plastered on for Dr. Hayes stiffened slightly.
She didn't understand why Dr. Hayes seemed to have an issue with her.
Even if she wasn't officially married to Sebastian yet, that was between them. Her behavior and professional competence were impeccable. She couldn't fathom when she might have offended the older woman.
She simply couldn't comprehend why Dr. Hayes was publicly snubbing her.
Fortunately.
There weren't many people around.
Sebastian remained entirely composed. He shot a subtle glance at Raelynn, and noting she had no intention of jumping in, he replied in a flat tone, "My wife is busy."
Those four words.
Plunged the area into an eerie, suffocating silence.
Raelynn almost burst out laughing from the sheer audacity of it.
He wasn't denying he had a wife, yet he blatantly refused to acknowledge that Mrs. Croix was standing right next to him.
Seraphina had initially felt a flash of shock and resentment that Sebastian would openly admit to having a wife, but she quickly realized his angle.
Dr. Hayes knew he was married; he couldn't deny it to her face.
So he admitted he had a wife, but he didn't admit it was Raelynn!
She shot Raelynn a look, her eyes brimming with undisguised mockery.
At the end of the day.
Raelynn was the pathetic one!
Standing right there, yet not even worthy of being acknowledged.
Forced to watch helplessly as Seraphina took her place as the woman by Sebastian's side.
Dr. Hayes had zero interest in other people's domestic drama. She simply despised the blatant disrespect. However, she wasn't going to start a war with Sebastian over someone like Seraphina.
She didn't spare Seraphina another glance, turning her warm attention back to Raelynn. "My dear Raelynn, quite a few top-tier researchers are here today. If you're free later, come find me for a chat."
And essentially calling Sebastian...
Sebastian obviously caught the implication.
His bottomless dark eyes locked onto Raelynn's face. He wasn't angry. Instead, a faint, unreadable smirk played at the corner of his lips.
Acting as if she hadn't noticed his reaction at all, Raelynn grabbed Chloe's arm, ready to leave.
Even as she was being dragged away, Chloe craned her neck back toward Seraphina, helpfully translating the insult. "She called you trash."
Even Leo's brow twitched.
He knew Raelynn had never been a pushover, but to speak to Sebastian with such blatant disrespect... Was she truly over him, or was this some new psychological game she was playing?
Given Sebastian's status, he had probably never been insulted like that in his entire life.
Just then.
Julian finished his duties at the front and walked over.
He had no idea what had just transpired, but seeing Raelynn caused a frown to crease his handsome features.

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
