Seraphina's heart skipped a beat, her knuckles turning white. She hadn't expected Preston to be the one to call her out.
This data had absolutely nothing to do with him.
And Faye was notoriously secretive, never making public appearances. Nobody should have known about this.
"Mr. Moreno, I don't know why you're slandering me like this, but you need evidence to back up such claims. You're putting me in a terrible position. I work for Longstride now, and I refuse to let you smear their reputation, or the Croix family's." She took a deep breath, looking deeply wounded.
Raelynn scoffed quietly.
Anyone who didn't know the truth would think they were bullying her.
No wonder Seraphina had acted so haughty when she terminated her contract and stopped using the database. She had planned to steal it from the very beginning.
She got to bask in the glory and save millions of dollars in licensing fees at the same time.
What a brilliant scheme.
Now she was dragging Longstride and the family into it, just to use their power to crush them.
"And what if we have the evidence?" Raelynn countered calmly.
Sebastian suddenly looked at her, his gaze unreadable.
Seraphina sneered inwardly, abandoning the polite facade she had used with Preston when addressing Raelynn. "I thought it was strange a moment ago, but now I get it. Mr. Moreno only said those things because someone instigated him. It's honestly exhausting."
As for evidence?
What evidence could they possibly have?
Faye had never even patented many of the core files in the database.
Without Faye showing up in person, anything the rest of them did was completely useless.
As soon as Seraphina finished speaking.
Leo strode forward, his brows furrowed tightly. "Raelynn, enough is enough. Even if you're jealous of Sera's achievements today, you can't just spout nonsense."
In his eyes, Raelynn had lost her damn mind.
She was blinded by jealousy, terrified that the family would value Seraphina's talent and honors. She probably knew this would guarantee Seraphina's entry into their ranks, so she was lashing out like a rabid dog to ruin her moment.
What he found even more unbelievable was that Preston was actually entertaining Raelynn's ridiculous claims.
If Seraphina had really stolen it, why wasn't Faye here herself?
Raelynn was just trying to stir up trouble.
