Raelynn hadn't expected Sebastian to be home.
He almost never came back to this house.
Yet recently, she seemed to run into him every single time.
Hearing the door, Sebastian lifted his eyes and took in her rushed, slightly disheveled appearance. "Is work keeping you that busy?"
So busy that she rarely came home lately.
According to the staff at the main estate, Raelynn hadn't delivered her special herbal soups there in days.
In the past, she would even go out of her way to have the restorative broths delivered straight to his office.
But recently, nothing.
He knew exactly why.
It all went back to Seraphina.
And this time, Raelynn seemed to have found a lot more 'backbone' than usual.
Raelynn had zero desire to answer him. She looked straight at Mary. "Where's the photo?"
Mary wiped her hands on her apron and pointed toward where Sebastian was sitting. "It's right there on Mr. Croix's table."
Raelynn finally noticed it. The family portrait was sitting right next to Sebastian's laptop.
Left with no other choice, she walked over.
She leaned down to grab it.
Before her fingers even brushed the frame, a hand with long, elegant fingers clamped tightly around her wrist.
Raelynn froze. She turned her head and met Sebastian's dark, unreadable eyes. His expression didn't change as he gave a slight nod toward the empty spot next to him. "Sit down. Let's talk."
"Just say what you want to say." Raelynn subtly but firmly pulled her hand out of his grip.
She forced down the urge to scream at him and demand why he was still putting his hands on her when they were literally getting a divorce.
Sebastian let his hand drop smoothly and completely out of nowhere, he stated: "Give the house to her. Name your terms."
Raelynn instantly glared at him. "What did you just say?"
Whatever scraps of composure she was holding onto started to crumble.
Sebastian picked up the family portrait from the table, his thumb slowly brushing over the frame. "I'll pay you double the market value of the house. You can go pick out something much better. She likes that specific property and doesn't want to choose another one."
"So I'm the one who just has to step aside?"
Because Seraphina wanted him, she had to step aside for that too.
Was that the universal rule here? Was Sebastian using this house to drop a completely unsubtle hint about their marriage?
Raelynn's lips twitched involuntarily.
But her eyes were completely locked on the family portrait in Sebastian's hand.
She was terrified that if she refused him, he might just rip it in half right in front of her.
