Sebastian turned and headed to his study to grab something.
In the span of a few minutes, he had casually dropped two hundred million just for the chance to make Seraphina smile.
Wait up for him? Was he out of his mind?
She had moved out days ago, and apparently, Sebastian still hadn't even noticed.
How utterly invisible did she have to be for him to be this oblivious?
Raelynn almost laughed out loud.
She couldn't care less about Sebastian. She grabbed her photo and walked right out the front door.
When she got back into her beat-up old Kia, she was infuriated to find it completely dead.
The engine wouldn't turn over.
No matter what she tried, the car was fully on strike.
Bad luck never traveled alone. As if the day hadn't been brutal enough, her car had chosen this exact moment to stage a mutiny.
She checked the time; it was just past eight.
Raelynn had to get out and pop the hood, but it was completely hopeless.
When Sebastian walked out, he saw the whole scene. He remembered she had been driving that exact car since the day they got married.
He got into his car and had the driver pull up next to her. Rolling down the window, he looked at her. "Heading back to the hospital? Get in. It's on my way."
Raelynn glanced back at him but didn't move.
"Henry, open the door for my wife," Sebastian ordered smoothly, his eyes skimming right past Raelynn's suspicious expression.
The driver, Henry, immediately jumped out and opened the rear door for her.
"Mrs. Croix, please."
Raelynn honestly hadn't expected Sebastian to be this 'considerate' right now.
But she also knew the reality: her car was dead, this was a highly exclusive private estate where ride-shares couldn't easily enter, and walking to the main road would take forever.
There was no point in punishing herself just to prove a point to him.
Raelynn got in.
She sat in the back seat with Sebastian, keeping a solid distance between them.
He kept his eyes glued to his iPad the entire time, showing zero interest in starting a conversation.
Which was perfectly fine by Raelynn.
The car glided out of the private estate, driving for about twenty minutes.
Just as they were about to merge onto the highway.
Sebastian's phone lit up.
Raelynn had been staring out the window the entire time, but the Maybach's windows were so impossibly polished that she clearly saw the caller ID reflecting off the glass.
The Maybach sped off into the distance.
Raelynn stood on the corner in the dead of winter. Stepping out of the heated luxury car into the freezing night air made the cold bite even harder, stiffening her bones instantly.
She looked down, her hands shaking as she pulled out her phone to order a car.
Her face remained completely blank.
Even though he had dumped her on the side of the road in the freezing cold late at night, without a second thought for her safety, just so he could run to Seraphina.
Faced with Sebastian's ruthless indifference.
She felt nothing. No pain, no sorrow, no joy.
It was rush hour, and the wait for a ride was going to be long.
Before her car arrived, a video call from her daughter, Lily, popped up.
Raelynn blinked her dry eyes and answered, instantly slapping on a bright smile. "Hey, baby."
Her daughter's perfectly beautiful little face filled the screen.
She flashed a huge smile, showing off adorable dimples. "Mommy! Are you done with work? Why are you outside all by yourself?"
Before Raelynn could answer, Lily stared closely at her mother's smiling face.
The little girl's expression suddenly dropped, looking like she wanted to reach straight through the screen and hug her. "Mommy, are you sad?"
