Raelynn had known the backlash was inevitable.
In the heat of the emergency, she hadn't wanted to waste precious golden moments indulging Seraphina Vance's petty rivalry. When she slapped the other woman, she had done so with absolute, chilling clarity.
So, as she met Seraphina's scathing glare now,
Raelynn remained entirely unbothered.
She didn't even bother glancing at Sebastian Croix to see his reaction. "Do whatever you want. Call the cops or sue me. If you need my ID number, just ask your precious Mr. Croix. He knows it."
Dropping those words, Raelynn turned on her heel and walked away.
She felt sticky and exhausted, desperate to clean herself up.
However, Raelynn's unapologetic attitude made Seraphina scowl, a suffocating wave of rage welling up inside her.
The humiliation she suffered today was massive.
It had happened right in front of countless mentors and university executives.
It had even occurred before the very peers she would be working with once she became Dr. Adrian Moreno's doctoral student.
Furthermore.
Raelynn had undeniably proven her worth and saved the day in front of the school officials.
The Yves family would likely treat Raelynn with even more respect going forward, wouldn't they?
The thought left her mind spiraling in jealousy.
"Sebastian, it seems she has no intention of apologizing." Seraphina took a deep breath, feigning helplessness and grievance. "I genuinely thought I could let it go if she just said she was sorry."
Sebastian finally tore his gaze away from the direction Raelynn had left. "Do you want to go to the infirmary for an ice pack?"
His concern immediately brightened Seraphina's expression. She glanced at the suit jacket Raelynn had discarded on the floor. "It's fine, it doesn't hurt anymore. As long as Dr. Hayes is okay, that's all that matters. It's just a shame I didn't get to network with her properly. Now, it's going to be incredibly difficult for me to secure a solid project anytime soon..."
"It won't be difficult." Sebastian's tone was impossibly casual. He walked over, picking up the discarded jacket, his gaze turning somber.
Seraphina looked at him, her eyes silently asking what he meant.
She was incredibly thankful that some instinct had prompted her to carry that small bottle of pills today.
Her custom-formulated 'Lifeline Pill' was ground from top-tier, priceless medicinal herbs, possessing miraculous effects for exact situations like this.
Its efficacy rivaled the most expensive stroke-prevention medications on the market—pills that easily sold for thousands of dollars each.
Had she not brought it along, Dr. Hayes's condition would have taken a fatal turn.
"Do you have any idea how famous you are right now?" Preston asked, finally catching his breath. He was grinning from ear to ear. "You're an absolute hero. Do you know who Dr. Hayes is? She's the ultimate pillar of the medical field! Your quick thinking literally snatched the next ten years of our medical advancement back from the brink of death. Word about you has already spread all over Kingsford University and the entire industry."
Raelynn was officially the talk of the town.
"And that pill you gave her," Preston continued. "The hospital said its efficacy was unprecedented. They're definitely going to ask you what it was. Kingsford Medical University will likely reach out to you soon."
"It's my own custom formulation. I've never released it to the public," Raelynn replied.
"Even better. The spotlight is going to be on that medication now. If everything goes right, they'll want to officially catalog it." Preston was in exceptionally high spirits. Looking at Raelynn, he could already see her blindingly bright future unfolding.
