Snatching Dr. Evelyn Hayes back from the jaws of death was more than enough to earn Raelynn serious recognition and accolades from the higher-ups.
Combined with her custom pill and undeniable medical prowess, the administration would undoubtedly be holding meetings about her for weeks.
However, since Raelynn was already an extraordinarily fast-tracked professor, there wasn't much room left for a promotion. The brass would have to rack their brains to figure out a proper reward.
Raelynn didn't care about any of that. When she was saving a life, she never had the luxury of thinking about personal gain.
This was especially true for Dr. Hayes, a phenomenal woman who had made monumental contributions to medicine. Raelynn simply wanted to ensure that ordinary people could continue to benefit from her work.
"Preston, you have visitors,"
an assistant called out from behind them.
Raelynn glanced over. "Who is it?"
The assistant scratched his head. "Mr. Croix from Croix Holdings."
Raelynn frowned in sudden confusion. What the hell was Sebastian doing here?
Exchanging a quick look with Preston, she didn't bother taking off her lab coat and followed him upstairs.
The uninvited guest wasn't just Sebastian. Seraphina Vance was sitting comfortably right beside him.
As if celebrating some hidden victory, Seraphina looked visibly delighted. Her legs were elegantly crossed as she leaned in to whisper something intimately to Sebastian, her eyes crinkling with a sweet smile.
As Raelynn walked through the door,
Sebastian finally shifted his gaze toward her.
Having navigated the corporate jungle for years, Preston knew better than to start a fight with a smiling face. He offered a polite greeting. "To what do we owe the pleasure of this visit, Mr. Croix?"
Raelynn had been running around all day and hadn't even had a sip of water. While they exchanged pleasantries, she ducked into the adjoining breakroom to grab a drink. As she turned around with a glass in her hand, she noticed something.
Sebastian had changed his outfit entirely.
The suit jacket he had draped over her earlier was gone; he was wearing fresh clothes from the inside out.
It was as if he had deliberately disposed of anything she had tainted with her touch.
The absolute disgust was palpable.
Seeing that Raelynn didn't dare put on airs at NexusMind, Seraphina mistakenly concluded that Raelynn wasn't a core member of the company.
She glanced at her tea and said, "Preston, you might not be aware, but earlier today, your employee, Raelynn, committed a deliberate assault against me."
Raelynn wasn't surprised in the slightest.
Just as she had suspected, they were here to collect a debt.
She simply dropped into the armchair opposite them, crossing her arms over her chest as she waited for Seraphina's punchline.
Preston genuinely hadn't known about the slap, but he remained completely unfazed. Did the rightful wife slapping the mistress even count as disturbing the peace?
"And what exactly are you proposing, Ms. Vance?"
"Look, Raelynn brought a lot of glory to NexusMind today by saving Dr. Hayes. That kind of honor will undoubtedly boost your company's prestige," Seraphina said smoothly. "I'm sure you wouldn't want any legal scandals involving Raelynn to ruin that momentum. I understand that. So, I don't plan on pressing charges. Consider it a favor to you, Preston."
Preston arched an eyebrow. "Just get straight to the point, Ms. Vance."
Seraphina's lips curved into a triumphant, calculating smile. "So, Sebastian and I came here today to discuss my terms. I want to buy an investment stake in NexusMind Technologies."
