Raelynn hadn't mentioned this to anyone.
And here was Seraphina, practically parading the fact that she was going in for an interview.
Raelynn had to fight back a laugh.
If Seraphina knew the person she was relentlessly trying to humiliate was actually on her interview panel, how would she react?
She knew Seraphina was just using the Kingsford interview as a flex to show off.
Unfortunately for Seraphina, she was flexing at the absolute worst possible target.
The unit price was a bust.
Raelynn wasn't going to force it.
After all, Seraphina was only one shareholder. Keystone would eventually have to discuss it internally.
The second phase wouldn't launch immediately anyway; they weren't in panic mode yet.
She typed a quick reply to Dr. Moreno as she walked out: [Got it. No problem.]
When she stepped outside, Seraphina was still there, lingering by the door and chatting with a few Keystone employees. Several female staff members were looking at her with undisguised envy. "You and Mr. Croix are so perfect together. Did you guys really go on vacation?"
Raelynn ignored them entirely.
She walked a short distance away to wait for her car.
Seraphina caught sight of Raelynn out of the corner of her eye.
"Yeah, Seb always spoils me. Whenever he has free time, he makes sure we're together. Everyone and everything else just has to wait."
After a chorus of awed sighs, one of the women pointed at Seraphina's phone screen. "Is that a picture of you and Mr. Croix? Are you guys hugging? Or are you..."
The woman's tone turned distinctly suggestive.
The others immediately crowded around to look.
"Oh wow, you can totally tell that was taken during a really intimate moment. Is that news article about Mr. Croix from a couple days ago actually about you?"
Raelynn tuned out the rest of the chatter.
She hadn't actually seen this "intimate hugging photo" they were whispering about.
But it was probably real.
Seraphina was using it as her lock screen, guaranteeing plenty of people would see it. It was basically a public announcement of her private relationship with Sebastian.
It was almost funny.
When the day arrived, Raelynn showed up at Kingsford University two hours early.
Today was the standardized interview day for all applicants.
Raelynn first went to meet the other professors on the panel.
None of them were strangers to her. Since she was the youngest by far—they were all old enough to be her parents—they were incredibly supportive and looked out for her.
Dr. Moreno stopped by briefly.
"I'm not on the panel today, so I won't be scoring or voting. To keep things perfectly fair, the final decision will be made collectively by the five of you."
Raelynn knew Dr. Moreno was stepping back to ensure absolute impartiality.
After all, there were only three spots available.
He gave Raelynn a pointed look. "That Seraphina Vance girl is in the mix. You're going to be okay with that, right?"
It dawned on Raelynn. "Are you trying to remind me to stay objective and not let personal feelings get in the way?"
Dr. Moreno coughed lightly behind his hand. "I'm just looking out for your career. You just started this job. You need to think about your future."
He didn't want her giving anyone ammunition to attack her professionalism over some petty personal grudge.
