She definitely couldn't risk a slip-up exposing the truth, which would be impossible to clean up.
Raelynn hadn't expected Preston to be so aggressively protective.
He had basically flipped the table on them, leaving the entire group speechless and embarrassed.
Leo was quick on his feet. He immediately changed the subject, saying, "Other people's family drama has nothing to do with us. Since we have such an incredible master here today, Seraphina, haven't you been feeling under the weather lately? Why not let him take a look?"
Seraphina froze at the suggestion.
She instinctively glanced at the highly respected Elder Physician, then at Raelynn.
Pursing her lips, she finally said, "No need, I'm perfectly fine."
"And I wouldn't want to waste resources and take up time from people who actually need it."
As soon as the words left her mouth, Raelynn caught the thinly veiled sarcasm.
She was accusing Raelynn of wasting the doctor's time.
Raelynn pulled her hand back and stood up calmly. "True, you're perfectly healthy. But the Mr. Croix standing next to you might actually need the help."
After all, Sebastian had personally told her years ago that he wouldn't be having children. He definitely needed treatment!
With that, Raelynn turned to leave.
Sebastian cast a casual, sideways glance at her.
He knew exactly what she meant.
Ignoring the emotional jab, he simply checked his watch. "Alright. Business first."
At those words, Seraphina's face lit up with excitement.
"Will Professor Finch be here today?"
Sebastian had brought her here today specifically to meet Professor Alistair Finch, the absolute pinnacle of traditional medicine.
If she could become Professor Finch's direct student, securing any partnership she wanted would require no more than a single word from him.
Sebastian was literally solving her problems from the root.
Leo looked around and offered comforting words. "As long as he meets you, Professor Finch will love you. You're practically a public figure now, you have the halo effect and the media exposure. You are the absolute perfect candidate to lead the revival of traditional medicine."
Seraphina couldn't help but smile.
She truly believed Leo was right.
Traditional medicine was on a downward trend.
It needed fresh blood, and it needed media exposure and a positive image.
But more importantly, she knew that the person behind the scenes, fueling Seraphina's rise and building her golden pedestal, was Sebastian.
When a man loves a woman, he truly spares no effort to lift her up—
She shrugged. "Let them exhaust themselves trying."
The gala continued for another two hours.
After it ended, Preston was pulled away for networking.
Raelynn went to the parking area alone to get her car.
Just as she approached and reached for the door handle.
She heard an annoyed voice from behind: "Raelynn, don't you think you're crossing a line?"
Raelynn turned around.
It was Seraphina.
Her pretty face was twisted in a sneer, her eyes darting between Raelynn and Raelynn's new car.
Beside Seraphina stood Sebastian and Leo.
"What is it now, Miss Home-wrecker?" Raelynn simply leaned against her car door, waiting to see what garbage she was about to spew.

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
