*Smack!*
Seraphina crashed hard onto the floor. Her perfectly styled hair fell into a mess, and her cheek began swelling immediately. She stared up at the man in sheer terror.
"Cameron... you..."
Nearby, Leo Flynn instantly dropped his glass and moved to intervene.
But Julian hauled him back.
There weren't many people in this side hall, but the violent outburst caused an immediate uproar.
Raelynn felt Sebastian rip his hand out of hers. Before she could even react, he shoved past her, sprinting straight toward the chaos without a single backward glance.
Watching his broad shoulders push through the crowd to rush to Seraphina's rescue.
Raelynn couldn't quite describe how she felt.
Even when she had offered to tell him "the truth about the child," he had still chosen to prioritize Seraphina's safety over getting his answers.
The room devolved into pure chaos.
Most of the guests had no idea what was happening.
Sebastian reached Seraphina. Ignoring Cameron entirely, he leaned down and helped her up from the floor.
"Are you hurt?" Sebastian asked.
Seraphina's eyes filled with tears. "How is he..."
How did he get out of prison so fast?!
And how could she ever show her face in high society again after being humiliated like this?
Sebastian narrowed his eyes but didn't answer.
Raelynn had zero interest in seeing how the drama played out.
Right now, her only priority was finding Chloe and getting Lily out of the building immediately.
However, she barely took a few steps inside before her path was blocked.
Raelynn found herself face-to-face with Cameron's dark, deranged stare. He sneered at her, grabbing her wrist and slamming her violently against the wall. "You're that useless? You couldn't even keep your own husband from slipping into someone else's bed?"
Raelynn's back hit the solid wall hard.
She winced from the sharp impact.
Caught off guard in her heels, her ankle twisted painfully as he manhandled her.
Ignoring the throbbing ache, she threw his vitriol right back. "Well, aren't you useless too? You couldn't even keep your own fiancée in line."
Cameron's handsome features twisted in rage. He raised his hand to strike her.
But in that split second.
A vicious rush of wind swept in from behind.
The very night Sebastian returned, he expressionlessly set the entire courtyard on fire.
He would rather reduce it to ashes than let anyone else taint a single inch of it.
He didn't even care.
That his own father, Cyrus Croix, and Jeanette were still inside.
It was a near-catastrophe.
Both Cyrus and Jeanette had almost burned to death.
His grandfather had been utterly furious. He demanded Sebastian admit his wrongdoing. When Sebastian refused, the old man locked him in the Ancestral Hall for three days straight without food or water.
Even then, Sebastian never apologized.
The moment Sebastian was finally let out, Cameron had smugly marched up to him. "An aunt is practically a mother! What's the big deal with her moving in?"
Even starving, dehydrated, and battered, Sebastian had pinned Cameron to the ground and beaten him mercilessly.
He had broken his ribs.
From that day forward, Cameron understood exactly how cold-blooded his cousin truly was.
He had always harbored a deep-seated terror of Sebastian.
A terror that lingered to this very day.
