Raelynn's temples gave a sudden, hard throb.
She turned her head and met Sebastian's calm, unfathomable gaze.
He had deliberately steered the topic onto her.
Was this his way of mockingly implying she had a child?
Or perhaps...
He was protecting Seraphina. Since Ian hadn't given her any face, Sebastian was stepping in to return the favor.
Raelynn couldn't help but look back. For the first time since walking through the door, her eyes locked with Sebastian's.
She honestly didn't see a single trace of jealousy or care about her so-called betrayal in his expression. If Ian hadn't pointedly exposed the underlying intent of Seraphina's words, Sebastian probably wouldn't have even bothered getting involved.
Ian narrowed his eyes imperceptibly.
Raelynn spoke in a casual tone. "Rather than asking me, Seraphina has a brother with such a large age gap. She has more experience than anyone here, so she really doesn't need to ask around for parenting advice."
Seraphina's expression shifted slightly.
The perfect smile she had maintained all evening froze for a split second.
Then, she shot Raelynn an icy glare.
What was Raelynn trying to imply with that?
Raelynn didn't bother checking their reactions anymore.
The parents were mingling, and the meeting hadn't officially started yet.
When her phone rang, Raelynn quietly slipped out of the classroom and walked down the hallway to answer it.
It was Dr. Adrian Moreno.
Lowering her voice, Raelynn answered, "Adrian, what's up?"
Adrian sounded like he was in the middle of an experiment. "I just sent you a student's profile. She wants to study under you. Take a look and see if she's a good fit. If not, we'll figure out another arrangement."
Raelynn was taken aback.
She had only just taken the position and hadn't even shown her capabilities yet. Someone already wanted her as a mentor?
"Sure."
"Is it going to be a hassle?"
"Not at all. I should have expected this when I became a professor."
Although they had initially agreed there were no mandatory teaching hours or mentoring quotas, she felt it was a personal choice she was willing to make.
Adrian chuckled. "Good. She's a bright student, so get to know her."
After hanging up, Raelynn logged into her email and pulled up the file.
The attached profile showed a young girl who looked a bit shy on camera, giving off a very sweet and obedient vibe.
