Raelynn forced a smile. "It's nothing."
Right on cue.
The teacher addressed the room from the front. "Parents, to ensure smooth communication moving forward, please join our class group chat on iMessage. I'll be sending all important updates there."
A spark of excitement flared in Raelynn's chest.
She had always been so meticulously cautious, never daring to leave a trace, which meant she had entirely missed out on typical parenting milestones like this.
Ian tilted his head toward her, a silent smirk playing on his lips. "I'm already in. I'll add you."
Raelynn was ready to let go of her reservations. She was about to officially transfer Lily's custody to her name anyway, so there was no need to hold back anymore.
The moment she joined the group chat.
She noticed Ian had already changed his display name to "Lily's Dad."
Her heart skipped a beat.
Ian's voice murmured near her ear. "Lily really wants a mother, Raelynn. If you change yours to 'Lily's Mom,' she'd be thrilled."
A wave of warmth spread through her chest.
Meeting Ian's gaze, she understood what he was doing. He was deliberately giving her a graceful way out, providing an excuse to step into the role without making it look suspicious.
Ian's low voice carried over to the people sitting nearby.
Seraphina snapped her head around, her face registering pure shock.
With an attitude like that, was Ian genuinely planning to let Raelynn play stepmother to his kid?
She instinctively glanced at Sebastian. Seeing that he wasn't paying the slightest bit of attention to Raelynn's side of the room, a smug smile curled her lips.
Raelynn updated her group chat name.
Almost the exact second she hit save.
A notification popped up at the bottom of the screen.
*S has joined the group.*
It was Sebastian's iMessage account. She recognized it instantly.
A moment later, Seraphina's sugary-sweet voice drifted over as she spoke to Sebastian. "My parents are getting older and aren't very good with this tech stuff. And Shane, even though he's little, still has his pride. He really wants to show off in front of the other kids and have a cool, handsome dad to brag about. Changing my name to 'Sister' feels a bit awkward, so why don't we just use 'Mom and Dad'?"
It was an absurd request.
Even Ian looked over, his brow furrowing in distaste.
Raelynn didn't react.
That is, until Sebastian's cold, indifferent voice replied, "Whatever works."
Seraphina's smile turned sickeningly sweet, radiating a blinding sense of domestic bliss that was impossible to ignore.
A hint of mockery flashed through Raelynn's eyes.
Sebastian truly indulged Seraphina without any bottom line.
