Leo Flynn prided himself on his keen judgment.
At the very least, he believed he understood his grandfather perfectly.
Under what circumstances would his grandfather be having private phone calls with Raelynn?
During the few seconds of Leo's hesitation, the old man impatiently urged him, "What are you spacing out for? Sebastian is here today. Spend some time with him and try to act like a grounded adult instead of drifting through life."
Speaking of this, the old man felt utterly exhausted.
They were around the same age, so how could the gap between them be so vast?
He had always known of Sebastian Croix's situation. The boy had been exceptional since childhood, which was exactly why the former chairman of Croix Holdings had designated him as the sole heir when Sebastian was barely a teenager.
He hadn't even given anyone else in the Croix family a chance to compete.
He felt that Leo's life had simply been too easy, resulting in his current frivolous attitude.
Leo didn't bother to refute the remark.
He genuinely admired Sebastian from the bottom of his heart.
"I know, Grandpa. You never get tired of saying it."
Sitting next to Raelynn, the old man scoffed coldly, giving his grandson no face at all. "If you really knew, you wouldn't have flushed so much money down the drain, losing everything, only to end up being the laughingstock of your cousins."
It was far more than that.
Leo hadn't just lost money.
He had nearly ruined his reputation beyond repair.
The Intelli-Cure System had been a massive hidden danger. The fatal medical malpractice lawsuit had blown up, severely damaging the family's corporate image.
Leo looked visibly awkward.
Sebastian then spoke up with a faint, detached tone, "Investment failures are common enough."
"Don't make excuses for him," the old man retorted instantly. "He deserves to suffer and learn his lesson."
Raelynn looked at the warm, fragrant sweet soup in front of her, sensing the old man's bitter disappointment.
Even though Leo had been demoted to a branch office, it was clear Mr. Flynn Sr. was trying to temper and train him.
The tense atmosphere was broken by the sudden ringing of Sebastian's phone.
He glanced at the screen.
Raelynn silently lowered her head and picked up her spoon.
Leo hated hearing his grandfather disparage Seraphina's project and abilities in front of Raelynn. He bluntly countered, "Seraphina's project was just collateral damage. The surgeon responsible for the accident was an arrogant fool. What could Seraphina have done about it? She was a victim, too."
The old man's expression instantly turned glacial. "If her so-called expertise was truly high-level, she might have been able to help that surgeon resolve the critical technical flaws in the procedure! Why would there be a medical accident in the first place? Isn't technology meant to change things for the better? Otherwise, what's the use of it?"
Leo's face turned ugly.
Even Raelynn couldn't help but marvel.
The older the ginger, the spicier it gets. The old man's words were razor-sharp.
Finding him genuinely amusing, she silently curved her lips into a small smile.
But Leo caught that fleeting trace of amusement.
He frowned immediately.
Was Raelynn mocking Seraphina now?
Leo let out a dry laugh. "Grandpa, you say I have poor judgment, trashing a real talent until she's worth nothing, yet you treat Raelynn with such warmth. Exactly what is it that you value so highly in her?"
