The old man looked at him strangely.
Leo shot a mocking glare at Raelynn before pointedly saying, "No matter what, Seraphina is the savior of the Flynn family. Our family will always grant her whatever she needs. Grandpa, she saved your life. You can't just ignore her grace because of one setback."
Her grace.
A flicker of deep meaning flashed through Raelynn's eyes.
Everything suddenly clicked into place.
She looked at Leo with an inexplicably weird expression.
The old man thought he had misheard.
He actually rubbed his ear. "Say that again? Who saved me?"
Leo suddenly sensed that the atmosphere was wrong.
The words he was about to blurt out caught in his throat. Especially when he met his grandfather's furious, incredulous glare, a sudden, inexplicable chill ran down his spine.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Who told you that? That Seraphina woman?" the old man demanded bluntly.
"What's wrong?"
The old man slammed his hand on the table and stood up. Snatching his walking stick, he strode over and whacked Leo without a second's hesitation.
Mr. Flynn Sr. hit hard. Leo cried out and jumped back in pain, but the old man wasn't finished. He chased his grandson around the room, landing several more heavy blows before finally leaning heavily on his cane, gasping for breath. "You little bastard! How can you be so stupid as to let someone lead you by the nose?! Your precious Seraphina was trying to steal the credit from the very beginning! I already stripped away her dignity at my birthday party, and she knows it perfectly well! And you're still letting her use you?!"
Ignoring the bone-deep ache radiating across his body, Leo gaped at him.
He opened his mouth in shock. "It wasn't Seraphina?"
The old man raised a hand and pointed straight at Raelynn, who had been sitting calmly the entire time. "My dear Raelynn was the one who saved me! I haven't gone senile enough to forget a face!"
Leo jerked his head toward Raelynn.
His eyes widened in utter disbelief, too stunned to make a single sound.
