Her voice was sharp and unwavering, having steadied her racing heart before delivering the heavy question.
She was completely out of options. The Croix family had crossed the line too many times, and this seemed to be the absolute only way to secure full custody of Lily.
The desperation had driven her to abandon all caution.
Ian clearly hadn't expected this opening line.
He gave a subtle wave of his hand, signaling his stunned assistant to leave.
Snapping to his senses, the assistant quickly backed out and quietly clicked the door shut.
Ian studied Raelynn's face, anchoring on the raw, uncontainable urgency burning in her eyes.
"Yes."
His response was calm and resolute.
He hadn't hesitated for even a fraction of a second.
After delivering that instant dose of reassurance,
he smoothly added, "However, my legal situation is a bit complicated. We'll need to do some prep work."
Ian pulled out a leather guest chair and gestured for her to sit.
Leaning casually against the edge of his desk right next to her, he explained, "I currently hold Canadian permanent residency. While my passport and citizenship are local, I've spent years living out of the country. Before we can legally marry here, I need to get a single status certificate issued from Canada. Are you willing to wait for that to process?"
The adrenaline finally began to drain from Raelynn's system.
The fake divorce certificate had completely clouded her judgment.
Getting married wasn't something two adults could just manifest out of thin air in a matter of hours.
She already knew about his international background.
He had spent years managing operations abroad, and local law demanded rigorous documentation for international residents.
She suddenly met his gaze. "Aren't you going to ask me why I'm suddenly proposing?"
And proposing a legally binding marriage, no less.
It meant she wouldn't have to bow her head or let them control her ever again. Except...
Raelynn looked at Ian, who didn't seem the least bit offended by her confession.
He completely understood the implication.
Her proposal tonight had nothing to do with romance or hidden feelings. It was strictly a transaction for her daughter.
"I'm sorry, I know this is an incredibly unfair request. You have every right to turn me down," she said, her rationality fully restored.
Blinded by panic over losing Lily, she hadn't stopped to consider why Ian would ever agree to trap himself in a loveless marriage of convenience just to solve her problems. Why should he sacrifice his first marriage for her?
She felt like she had completely crossed the line.
Ian saw right through her internal spiral.
She was the type of woman who wore her heart on her sleeve, fiercely honest with both her love and her hate.
He leaned in slightly, locking eyes with her as a faint, devastating smile curved his lips. "Did I ever say I was opposed?"

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....

I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
