He looked at her sitting in the backseat. Without a proper booster seat, the seatbelt couldn't even secure her. He paused. "Mommy is perfectly fine. Do you want to play a game with me?"
Lily looked at him.
"Really?"
"Yeah."
Sebastian said, "I'm going to drop you off with an uncle to play."
He checked his watch. "Starting from right now, in exactly five hours, I promise your mommy will be standing right in front of you. Your job is to keep track of the time and see if I keep my promise. Sound good?"
Lily had a watch too and immediately checked the time.
"Okay. Pinky promise."
Sebastian turned around, hooked his pinky around her tiny finger, his dark gaze deepening. "So starting right now, I'm going to test your memory. From the moment you and Mommy went out today, where did you go? What landmarks did you see? What did you eat? Where did you lose her? What kind of car did you take? A ride-share? A taxi? The subway?"
His voice was as steady as someone telling a bedtime story.
It easily soothed the child's anxious heart.
Although Lily didn't understand why he was asking, she thought about it seriously.
She started with, "Mommy rented a car today."
Sebastian's eyes flashed. "Got it. Alright, I'm going to take you to that uncle now, and then the timer starts, okay?"
Gripping the straps of her bear backpack, Lily nodded firmly.
Sebastian sat back down, his gaze turning predatory as he stared at the road ahead.
The kidnappers were clever. They targeted Raelynn but didn't dare touch the Hudson family's prized child, ensuring they didn't completely enrage the Hudsons while leaving themselves an out.

Sebastian's face was devoid of emotion.
He dropped Lily off at the Yves family's place.
But not the main estate.
He took her to Julian's private villa.
After checking if Julian had found any leads and telling him to hurry back and watch the kid.
Sebastian focused on the most prominent car rental agencies in Seaport City.
Every rental car had GPS—that was his lead.
Using his connections, the search was lightning fast. He found Raelynn's registration info and the car's last known location: an underground parking garage, right in a blind spot for the security cameras.
To figure out how Raelynn was quietly taken, they had to review every single vehicle entering and exiting that garage.
She realized there was no one else around.
Which was incredibly strange.
She had been drugged.
Right before she lost consciousness, she identified the drug as Sevoflurane—a highly regulated, potent anesthetic capable of knocking someone out in seconds.
Her attackers had come fully prepared.
Yet now, there was no sign of the kidnappers.
She didn't have time to overthink it.
Raelynn kicked the car door open with all her might.
She stumbled out.
Looking around, it was completely desolate.
There was no city noise; she was in the middle of a remote wilderness.
The sun was setting, and a primal, terrifying fear began to claw its way out from deep within her.
It suddenly reminded her of her childhood, when Silas Vance had dumped her in a strange place just like this, leaving her to fend for herself.
Mustering every last drop of her strength, Raelynn made sure the coast was clear and started running blindly in one direction.

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
