But before her anger could fully boil over, her phone rang again.
This time, when she saw the caller ID, Raelynn was slightly taken aback.
Dr. Evelyn Hayes.
She hesitated for a moment before answering. "Dr. Hayes?"
Dr. Hayes sounded heavy-hearted, though she still asked gently, "My dear Raelynn, do you have some time right now? I arrived in Kingsford this afternoon. Could you come see me?"
The older woman was asking for a favor.
It sounded like a matter of great importance.
With someone of her immense stature speaking so politely, Raelynn obviously couldn't find a reason to decline. She glanced at the watch on her wrist; it was just past nine. "Yes, I do. Please send me the address."
"Thank you for the trouble, my dear."
Raelynn quickly gathered her things.
When she checked the address for Dr. Hayes's private residence, she was surprised to find it was in the same exclusive neighborhood as Professor Alistair Finch's home, just a few houses down.
But it made sense.
National treasures like them were likely housed by the government in these designated affluent communities, much like the prestigious compounds of the past.
Raelynn was incredibly familiar with the route.
Because she had the access card Professor Finch had given her, she didn't have to go through the repetitive security checks at the gates.
She drove straight past her mentor's courtyard.
Without disturbing anyone inside, she walked directly over to Dr. Hayes's residence.
Upon arriving.
Someone escorted her inside.
However.
The moment she stepped into the living room and saw the people gathered there, a flicker of surprise flashed through Raelynn's eyes.
Quentin Yves and Sylvia Dalton were actually in Kingsford, sitting right to Dr. Hayes's left. Sylvia looked deeply distressed and helpless.
Raelynn remained entirely unfazed.
She didn't rush to defend herself or deny anything.
She wanted to hear exactly what kind of scheme Blanche and her daughter were cooking up.
"But..." Blanche couldn't help but let out a low sob. "We almost believed it was her at first too. After all, everyone knows how deep the bad blood runs between Raelynn and Sera. However, I thought about it carefully, and Raelynn has absolutely no reason to ruin her own life by doing something so heinous! She has a bright future ahead of her; she isn't someone desperate, standing at the edge of a cliff. The culprit is clearly someone else entirely!"
Saying this.
She glared at Sylvia with absolute venom. "Now, whose interests are threatened the most? It seems you're the only one left! Sera is a member of the Yves family. With the DNA test results coming out at any moment, you made a truly ruthless move!"
Sylvia shook her head frantically, turning to the grim-faced Dr. Hayes. "Please believe me, I would never do such a thing."
Raelynn didn't say a single word.
Her gaze swept across the room, and she couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.
Wasn't the gun supposed to be pointed at her?
They had blown the whole thing completely out of proportion, alright... but they had aimed it squarely at Sylvia?

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....

I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
