No wonder she had been summoned. She was involved too, a victim who had nearly been framed for the whole ordeal. Dr. Evelyn Hayes had clearly called her here to set the record straight.
Sylvia Dalton recoiled, visibly shaken by Blanche's accusation. Panic flashed across her face as she instinctively gripped Quentin Yves's arm, completely blindsided by the sudden attack.
Quentin's brow furrowed into a deep scowl. "Watch what you say. You can't just throw around baseless accusations."
Blanche glared at the way Sylvia clung to Quentin. Her lips twisted into a bitter frown. "Every word I said is the truth. Don't you all think the timing of this accident is a little too convenient? Sera was on the verge of finally returning to the Yves family, and suddenly she nearly loses her life! Who exactly stands to gain from her not making it back?"
Seraphina Vance stood there, her face terrifyingly pale. She cast a mournful glance at Sylvia. "I know you hate me. My mother told me everything that happened back then. Because my biological mother took me away and severed ties with the Yves family, you were denied your proper place. It even led to you losing your unborn child. You hate my mother for that, and you hate me, too."
Her words hit like a physical blow.
The heavy silence that followed instantly dragged the Yves family back to the tragedies of the past. Sylvia's eyes fluttered, raw hurt flashing in her gaze.
Raelynn Ortiz wisely kept her mouth shut, watching the drama unfold from the sidelines.
She was just as curious to see how this twisted web would untangle.
Seraphina wasn't finished.
"After that incident," she continued, her voice trembling slightly, "they say you could never have children again. When it comes down to it, no one in the world hates me more than you do."
It was a secret Blanche had shared with her in confidence.
The scandal had nearly torn the Yves family apart years ago.
The late Mrs. Yves had discovered their betrayal in the most brutal way possible. On that fateful day, Sylvia had approached her to announce her pregnancy. Still recovering from childbirth and at her most vulnerable, the late Mrs. Yves had erupted into a devastating argument, demanding an immediate divorce from Quentin.
Quentin, naturally, had refused.
