Meeting Dr. Hayes's piercing gaze, Seraphina felt her blood run ice-cold. She violently flinched and stammered, "There has to be a misunderstanding! The lab must have made a mistake. It's impossible!"
"Are you questioning the authority of a top-tier medical facility?" Dr. Hayes challenged.
Seraphina froze. "I'm not..."
Blanche seemed on the verge of a total breakdown. Her face was chalk-white as she screamed hysterically, "Absolutely not! I clearly used..."
Her voice abruptly clipped off.
Realization slamming into her, her eyes darted away in a panic.
Cold sweat beaded on her forehead.
At that half-finished sentence, Sebastian turned his somber, predatory gaze toward her.
"There must be some shady business going on behind the scenes! Chairwoman Hayes, you have to..." Plunged into an icy nightmare, Seraphina instinctively reached out to grab Dr. Hayes's hand.
Begging for a shred of sympathy.
Her brain was short-circuiting.
Every ounce of her confidence, every foolproof plan she thought she had, was being brutally pulverized. Her ability to even form a coherent thought completely shut down.
Dr. Hayes, however, erupted in fury. "Even now, you're still trying to spin lies?! You expect me to take your word over a professional medical test?!"
Seraphina shrank back under the matriarch's terrifying glare.
Her lips quivered. "No..."
Dr. Hayes was burdened by a heavy heart, her fragile hopes crushed once again.
Her face tightened into a scowl. "The jade amulet. Where did you get it?!"
Her interrogation caused Blanche to violently flinch.
In this world-shattering moment, Blanche instinctively shot a panicked glance at Raelynn, who was standing a few feet away. Her mind was snapping.
She had drawn Raelynn's blood and staged a fake kidnapping.
She had used Raelynn's blood for the DNA test!
She had been one hundred percent certain Raelynn was Lydia's daughter, but now... she wasn't either?!
"To secure wealth and status, a mother and daughter conspired to defraud us. What kind of fools do you think the Yves family are? Do you have no shame?!" Dr. Hayes roared. "Hand over the amulet immediately! I will not let this go unpunished!"
Sometimes, you just had to admit that love was blind. It made a man cherish a woman's virtues while completely swallowing her sheer depravity.
Once Dr. Hayes had the pendant in her hands, she held it up to the overhead lights, tracing every inch of it.
Memories of Lydia flooded her mind, followed by the image of a tiny baby girl.
Grief washed over her face.
She clutched the jade tightly in her palm.
But a second later, her expression shifted.
She immediately held the amulet up again, scrutinizing the front, the back, and every tiny crevice.
Something was wrong.
The color was off.
Jade looked different under various lighting, but it never looked like this.
She frantically flipped it over, then snapped her head up. Her fury exploded to catastrophic levels as she screamed, "You presented a blatant fake to defraud the Yves family from the very beginning!"

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....

I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
