Raelynn felt awful about the whole situation.
She knew Alistair was only getting this fired up because he was fiercely protective of her.

Seraphina felt like she was being stabbed with needles.
She was convinced Raelynn was driving a wedge between them, and right now, she was being publicly roasted on an open fire.

"Professor Finch, I sincerely hope you'll reconsider. If you have any reasonable demands, I will do my best to meet them," Sebastian said, his eyes narrowing slightly as he slowly stood up. His posture was perfectly respectful, neither subservient nor arrogant.

He wasn't backing down an inch.
He was absolutely refusing to let Seraphina suffer that kind of humiliation or take the fall publicly.
Raelynn saw it all with agonizing clarity.
A quiet, mocking laugh slipped past her lips.
Love really was a beautiful thing, wasn't it?
A proud, untouchable man like Sebastian Croix was willing to bow his own head just to protect Seraphina.
Meanwhile, Raelynn was the actual victim of the vicious rumors, and he hadn't lifted a finger to defend her...
Raelynn took a deep, heavy breath.
She slowly relaxed her tightly clenched fists.
Her palms were already marked with deep, angry red half-moons from her nails.
Alistair stared at the elegant, composed man standing in front of him, looking profoundly disappointed.
Now he was absolutely certain.
Sebastian Croix was completely unfit to be Lily's father!
"Then we have nothing to discuss."
Alistair didn't waste another breath on them.
He turned with a cold face, pushed the door open, and left.
Seraphina's face was pale and tight.
She had never been so thoroughly humiliated in public.
And the person responsible for all of this was Raelynn, who had clearly gone out of her way to drag her name through the mud.
If Raelynn hadn't spun a web of lies about her, there was no way Professor Finch would have rejected her.
Raelynn didn't care at all how Sebastian felt about being shut down.
She gave Preston a quick nod and hurried out after Alistair.
The old man was furious.
She had to go smooth things over.
As soon as Raelynn left.
Sebastian turned his attention to Preston. His tone was perfectly polite but distinctly distant. "Sorry for intruding today. We'll catch up another time, Mr. Moreno."
He didn't try to pressure Preston into putting in a good word for them.
He just calmly moved past it.
But even he couldn't stop the laugh that burst out of him.
He was laughing because he was so angry.
"Are you saying that Raelynn got between you and Sebastian?"
Seraphina sidestepped the question entirely. "Let's not discuss private matters."
Preston wanted to laugh even harder.
Was she seriously trying to play the bigger person by pretending she was generously "sparing Raelynn's feelings" by not exposing her?
"Sorry about that, I had to take a call," Sebastian said, walking back into the room.
Seraphina instantly dropped the act. She looked back at Preston. "Mr. Moreno, I still strongly believe a collaboration between us would be mutually beneficial. Could you please reconsider?"
Sebastian looked at Preston as well.
Seraphina frowned.
Shouldn't top-tier talent like her be highly sought after?
Even if they didn't have an open slot, how hard could it be to fire some irrelevant nobody to make room for her?
She was convinced that wasn't the real reason.
There was something else going on.
But now wasn't the time to push the issue.
Sebastian didn't try to force it. The corner of his mouth lifted slightly as he gave a faint nod. "That's fine. Business is all about finding the right fit."
He smoothly led Seraphina out of the room.
Preston stood there, frowning as he watched the two of them walk away together.

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
