Suddenly, the crushing weight of Raelynn's suffocating reality became painfully obvious.
Anyone could see that Seraphina had the confidence of someone publicly and unequivocally favored.
Did being loved give someone that much audacity?
Even the other woman?
-
Raelynn had no idea what was happening on their end.
By the time she chased after him, Professor Alistair Finch had already gotten into his car and left.
Helpless, she had no choice but to head back first.
As she walked upstairs.
She saw Sebastian Croix and Seraphina walking out together.
Seraphina shot her a cold glare before leaving arm in arm with Sebastian.
Sebastian was still on the phone and didn't spare Raelynn a single glance.
He probably thought she had been badmouthing Seraphina behind her back and was annoyed with her.
Raelynn no longer cared what Sebastian thought.
-
That evening.
Leo Flynn hosted a get-together.
The fact that Seraphina had been rejected wasn't exactly a secret.
She pursed her lips and said, "I can't think of any other reason. Raelynn must have said something to make Professor Finch so biased against me."
"She's too scared to face you head-on, so she has to resort to these cheap shots."
Leo frowned, then offered a comforting word. "It's fine. There will be plenty of opportunities to see him again. Once he gets to know you, Professor Finch will see right through Raelynn's lies. Don't worry, we're all on your side."
Seraphina couldn't help but smile at that.
"Besides, you have Sebastian to back you up. You have nothing to be afraid of," Julian said, his eyes lifting from his phone screen, a brow arched playfully.
Seraphina beamed.
She knew the two of them were just trying to cheer her up.
She had saved Leo's grandfather, so Leo was even more attentive to her now. And Julian, who despised Raelynn's character, stood by her side and spoke up for her, fully accepting her as a friend.
When it came to winning people over...
Raelynn couldn't hold a candle to her.
She had powerful figures backing her up, but what did Raelynn have?
Seraphina turned her head to look at Sebastian beside her, her gaze softening. "But in the end, I couldn't become his mentee. Sebastian, do you have any other ideas?"
Sebastian lowered his eyes and poured himself a drink, answering at a leisurely pace, "Yeah. Leave it to me."
The smile in Seraphina's eyes deepened.
Sebastian was so patient and accommodating with her. No matter how many tricks Raelynn played, it would all be in vain.
