Raelynn's voice was remarkably calm.
She had suddenly said the word "hubby."
The entire table stopped eating and looked over.
Even Seraphina's expression shifted slightly.
Only Sebastian's dark eyes remained fixed on Raelynn, completely unreadable, without making a sound.
Julian also looked at Raelynn in surprise.
However.
Raelynn smiled at everyone again, pausing for dramatic effect.
"My hubby..."
"Well, I'm a widow. But it gets worse—some creep robbed his grave to use him in a twisted post-mortem wedding ritual."
The spacious private dining room fell silent for several seconds.
Someone finally reacted, "Huh? Seriously?"
Raelynn nodded, looking distressed. "Yeah, he got dug up. But we weren't divorced when he kicked the bucket. Tell me, does that count as cheating?"
Everyone had almost believed her at first.
But the moment Raelynn dropped this morbid joke.
There was another few seconds of silence.
Then, sudden bursts of laughter erupted.
Everyone was laughing together.
They instantly assumed Raelynn was just messing around and played along with the joke. "Of course it counts! Where's the loyalty? And what kind of desperate freak digs up a married man's bones? Talk about thirsty!"
"Hahaha, even ghosts are desperate for a ring? Maybe there's a shortage of men in the underworld."
Seraphina's face had darkened completely.
Her lips pressed into a tight line as she glared across at Raelynn.
How could she not know?
Raelynn was actually insulting both her and Sebastian.
Sebastian rested his arm on the table, his long fingers tapping a slow rhythm on the surface. He looked up, his gaze pausing on Raelynn's face for a few seconds.
His eyes betrayed neither pleasure nor anger.
But even without speaking, simply staring at someone like that...
It carried an immense, oppressive weight.
Raelynn pretended not to notice.
They had started it.
Julian was now certain.
When Raelynn got downstairs, Preston was already there. Seeing how thinly she was dressed, he immediately took off his jacket and started nagging her. "Do you think you're invincible? It's freezing out, don't you have any sense?"
When Raelynn had given birth to Lily, she had suffered a severe hemorrhage.
If Preston hadn't been there, mobilizing the hospital's specialists to deliver the baby, it could have ended in a disaster.
Since then, Raelynn's health had been heavily depleted.
She was much weaker than the average person.
Professor Finch had wanted to build her strength back up, but Raelynn was stubbornly defiant. She hated taking herbal medicine, going so far as to secretly pour premium restorative brews into her potted plants.
It had infuriated Professor Finch so much that he grumbled about it for years.
Raelynn's ears were calloused from hearing it.
Preston just treated her too much like a little girl.
"Okay, okay, Preston the Preacher, stop lecturing me." She obediently pulled the jacket tighter around herself.
"Get in."
Preston couldn't be bothered to go greet Sebastian and Julian; he just wanted to get out of there.
Who knew.
This exact scene was witnessed by the group walking out.
Julian stared at Preston's attentive gesture of wrapping Raelynn in his jacket. He frowned inexplicably, a strange feeling washing over him as he instinctively asked, "What's the deal with them? Why is Preston so close to Raelynn?"

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
