Sierra found herself staring at Zella for a long moment.
That kind of effortless, regal aura wasn't something a normal upbringing could cultivate.
Raelynn let out a silent sigh. What horrible luck. Out of all the places in the city, she just had to crash into them here.
"Zella Davenport?" Chloe muttered under her breath.
Raelynn glanced at her. "What is it?"
Chloe explained, "You remember my boyfriend, Derek Davenport, right? I introduced you guys before, but I never really gave you his family background. He's from the same family. Zella is his cousin."
Of course...
Raelynn wasn't even surprised anymore.
The surname Davenport was rare enough.
In this elite circle, anyone who crossed paths was almost guaranteed to belong to one of the major dynasties.
"Mr. Davenport? I've heard of him," Sierra chimed in.
Speak of the devil. A striking, handsome man spotted Chloe from across the room and gracefully wove his way through the crowd. The moment he reached her, he naturally took Chloe's hands, wrapping them in his own to warm them up.
"Why are you wearing so little?" Derek scolded lightly, tapping the top of Chloe's head.
Chloe squinted her eyes in a bright smile. "It's barely the beginning of winter. I'm fine."
Derek was clearly helpless against her. He tried to maintain a stern face, but a soft smile broke through anyway. "Keep pushing it. You'll be crying to me when you get a headache."
The easy intimacy between them was undeniable to anyone watching.
And Raelynn was no exception.
She had always known about Chloe's long-term relationship. A good romance nourished a woman's soul. Although Chloe was marginalized and ignored within the Hudson family, her bond with Derek had always been rock solid. Even when they were in different countries, they video-called every single day without fail.
The people around them were openly teasing the pair, the entire room buzzing with the assumption that their two powerhouse families were cementing a marriage alliance.
She looked back at Raelynn with deep concern.
But Raelynn looked completely unbothered.
She was intensely studying the dessert table as if it were the most fascinating thing in the world.
Sierra also kept sneaking glances across the room. Seeing that Raelynn had absolutely no intention of marching over to stake her claim, she couldn't hold back anymore. "Raelynn, do you really not care? Shouldn't we at least go over and say hello?"
"There's no need. We all have our own lives."
Raelynn picked up a slice of cheesecake, entirely unwilling to spare a single second of her attention on that side of the room.
Sierra opened her mouth, but the words died on her tongue.
She bit her lip, her grip tightening around her phone.
With Raelynn's refusal to fight or cause a scene, was she really just going to watch those two walk down the aisle together?

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
