Preston understood completely and nodded. "Alright, I'll go talk to the hotel management."
"Sunny, why are your eyes red? Did someone bully you? Tell me, and I will set them straight." Arthur's cloudy eyes caught Raelynn's forced smile, and he anxiously tried to wheel himself forward to touch her face.
Raelynn hurried over. "I'm fine, Grandpa, I'm fine. It's just too crowded here at the hotel. Let's go home to eat, okay?"
Arthur's mind wasn't as sharp as it used to be, so he was easily pacified. Raelynn did her best to soothe him.
-
Next door.
Blanche was still seething over Raelynn's disrespect. "Look at that little curse," she scoffed coldly. "Even after being dumped in the countryside all those years, she hasn't lost those nasty thorns. Still as obnoxious and unlikable as ever."
Silas sighed helplessly. "That girl is just like her mother. She never knows when to let things go."
"And yet she's the lucky one. Somehow, she played her cards right and schemed her way into the Croix family. Imagine the dirty tricks she had to use to pull that off," Blanche sneered.
Raelynn was currently hogging the title of Mrs. Croix and refusing to let it go, entirely devoid of shame. It was a constant thorn in Blanche's side.
Suddenly, Blanche's eyes darted sideways. She looked at Silas. "Sera and Sebastian's interview today... it's going to be broadcast publicly, right?"
Silas instantly understood what she was getting at. He fell silent, making no move to stop her. If Raelynn was just going to take up space without offering them any benefits, why let those resources go to waste?
Blanche smiled. "Call the hotel manager over. I need him to do something for us."
-
Preston quickly arranged for a car.
Raelynn was pushing Arthur out of the banquet hall when the massive screen at the front of the room suddenly flared to life.
By the time Arthur fully turned around, the intimate footage of Sebastian and Seraphina was gone. The old man looked confused, completely unaware of what had just happened.
Raelynn's hands trembled uncontrollably on the handles of the wheelchair. She couldn't even fathom the shock it would have caused her grandfather if he had seen that. Given his age and fragile health, the stress could have literally killed him.
And this video...
"Nyah nyah nyah! You're a thief! Give my sister her spot back! You're a shameless, evil woman trying to ruin my sister and brother-in-law's relationship!"
A chubby little figure darted through the door. Shane, dressed in a tiny suit and bowtie, stood with his hands on his hips like a little terror, laughing arrogantly at Raelynn. His young face was contorted with pure malice.
He even shot a nasty look at Arthur, puffing his chest out further. "My dad says old geezers like you just drain the life out of everyone else! Since we share a birthday, you better not steal any of my years. Why don't you just..." die.
Slap!
The sharp crack of a hand against a cheek echoed through the room, cutting off his vicious words instantly.
