Raelynn stood expressionless in front of the stunned little boy. She stared down at this spoiled, thoroughly undisciplined brat, her hand stinging slightly. That slap had landed squarely on the mouth that had just spewed such filth.
Clearly, Shane had never been hit or even scolded in his entire life.
For a long moment, he couldn't even process what had happened. He just stood there, eyes wide, staring at Raelynn as his mouth burned with a fiery pain.
Then, glaring at her with venomous hatred, his face scrunched up, and he prepared to unleash an ear-piercing wail.
Raelynn's face remained blank. She grabbed the sturdy little brat by the arm and forcibly dragged him out of the banquet hall.
Preston was even faster. The second Raelynn grabbed Shane, he wheeled Arthur out through a different exit leading outside.
The moment he was dragged into the hallway, Shane began to wail hysterically.
Suddenly, the parents who were nowhere to be found miraculously appeared. Blanche lunged forward and shoved Raelynn. "Are you even human, Raelynn? Putting your hands on a child?!"
Silas sprinted over from who-knew-where, glaring at Raelynn with profound disappointment. "This is completely out of line! He's just a child! How could you sink so low as to pick a fight with a child?"
Raelynn's ears rang with Shane's screeching, nails-on-a-chalkboard sobbing, layered over Silas and Blanche's self-righteous accusations.
She looked at the family with cold mockery. "Oh, so he does have parents. I thought you were all dead, seeing as I had to step in and educate him for you."
When Shane barged into their room to cause trouble and curse at her grandfather, Silas and Blanche were conveniently missing. But the second their precious son got put in his place, they appeared out of thin air. Perfect timing.
"He's just a child! Since when do we take a boy's ramblings so seriously? Do you have no shame, being so petty? How old is he, and how old are you?!" Blanche glared at Raelynn, her eyes filled with venomous disdain.
Frost gathered in Raelynn's eyes as she enunciated every word. "If you let this spoiled, brainless little terror keep running his mouth and picking fights, I'll have no problem letting everyone know exactly how shameless Seraphina is, throwing herself at her own brother-in-law!"
"Raelynn, what kind of nonsense are you spouting?!"
Silas's composure finally shattered. His voice pitched up, the mask of the loving father completely shattering.
