Raelynn took a sip of whiskey from her glass, relishing the harsh, fiery burn.
This was for the best.
Honestly, she had to thank him for his utter devotion to Seraphina—it was the only reason Lily remained perfectly hidden. Because he sprinted off to play knight in shining armor, he would never cross paths with his daughter.
"Did an emergency pop up at Sebastian's company? Is it serious?" Arthur asked, finally realizing Sebastian had left.
Raelynn forced a smile. "Yeah, very serious. If he didn't go, it might have killed him."
Preston watched Raelynn acting completely unfazed, like a spectator in her own life. He pressed his lips together, a bitter taste in his mouth.
Truthfully, Raelynn was in a surprisingly good mood. Her entire universe revolved around Lily. As long as the divorce went smoothly and she secured full custody without a fight, she didn't care what Sebastian did.
With Sebastian gone, Raelynn stood up to call Chloe.
But just as she opened her contacts, Chloe's name flashed on the screen.
Raelynn answered immediately. "Did you and Lily leave—"
"Sunny, there's been an accident. Lily and I were in a car crash."
Raelynn's face instantly went ashen.

To avoid panicking Arthur, Raelynn begged Preston to stay at the care facility and keep him company.
She flagged down a taxi and rushed straight to the police station. Chloe was already there when she called.
When Raelynn burst through the doors, Chloe was sitting on a plastic bench, looking pale and furious.
Next to her sat a little girl with her hair tied in two low space buns. She was absolutely adorable, with massive, dark eyes and perfectly delicate features. She was so pretty that the officers kept walking by just to offer her snacks.
