Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 86

Raelynn's eyes dilated in terror.

This was exactly what she hated most about Sebastian. He was endlessly sharp, always catching the one word he wasn't supposed to hear!

Thankfully, Arthur's memory was a sieve. He had already forgotten what he'd said a second ago. Gently stroking his late wife's painting, he muttered, "Having kids is a blessing. The more siblings you have, the more people you have in your corner. Not like our Sunny... she's all alone in the world."

Listening to her grandfather's rambling, Raelynn's heart ached.

Even in his clouded state, his biggest worry was always her. He was terrified she would be taken advantage of, terrified she would suffer in silence, terrified she had no one to protect her.

Sebastian realized Arthur was just babbling confusedly, so he didn't press him on the word "another."

Instead, he stepped forward, placing the remaining scrolls gently by Arthur's hand. "You're right. We'll work on it," he said, his tone smooth and comforting.

Raelynn almost laughed out loud. Sebastian's ability to lie with a straight face was truly something to behold.

Just then, Preston walked back in.

Seeing Sebastian, Preston instinctively frowned, adjusting his grip on the takeout bags. "Mr. Croix. Looks like you found some free time in your schedule after all."

The thinly veiled sarcasm was unmistakable.

Sebastian didn't bat an eye. "It's Grandfather's birthday. Nothing takes precedence over this."

Preston glanced at Raelynn. He had watched the Vance family humiliate her. Even with Sebastian standing here acting like the perfect husband, Preston was still infuriated on her behalf.

This whole mess could have been avoided, but instead, Raelynn had been forced to sneak her grandfather out the back door just to have a peaceful meal.

He knew the Vance family was out of line, but the root of the problem was standing right in front of him: Sebastian.

"There's no one else here to impress. If you have work to do, you can leave," Raelynn said. She had zero patience left for watching him put on a show for her grandfather.

She was obsessively calculating the time. Chloe had already picked up Lily. She had texted Chloe, but hadn't gotten a reply yet. She was terrified something would go wrong.

Sebastian's eyes instantly darkened. Without missing a beat, he said softly, "Wait for me."

He hung up the phone and looked at Raelynn. "An emergency came up. I have to handle it. We'll have dinner another time."

Raelynn stared at him, her heart dead and entirely numb to the rejection. "Okay. Hurry."

Sebastian left immediately, his long strides eating up the distance to the door as he rushed back to the love of his life.

Raelynn wasn't surprised in the slightest.

Whenever he was forced to choose, Sebastian's first choice would always be Seraphina. Even if, just seconds ago, he had sworn nothing was more important than her grandfather's birthday.

That promise only held weight as long as Seraphina didn't need him.

If Seraphina's injuries were truly life-threatening, could she have made the call herself? Of course not. But to Sebastian, who treated her like a fragile glass doll, a scratched knee was the end of the world.
