Raelynn's nerves instantly snapped taut.
Her eyes darted to the waiting area where Chloe was holding Lily.
She opened her mouth, about to yell, "Don't—"
But a second later, Sebastian's cool voice drifted through the speaker. "I can't. The kid is upset and won't let me leave."
Those words hit Raelynn like a bucket of ice water, freezing her down to the bone and waking her up entirely.
Won't let him leave?
He was bending over backward for a brat who shared zero blood with him.
If Sebastian ever found out that the choice he made today had forced him to abandon his own biological daughter in a police station... would he regret it?
Raelynn didn't even care about the answer anymore.
She balled her hands into tight fists, her eyes burning with desolate mockery as she gritted out every word. "Sebastian Croix, I am taking Chloe out of this precinct right now. You either fix things with Seraphina, or I'll fix her for you."
Lily couldn't afford to wait anymore. She needed a doctor immediately. To ensure that, Raelynn was more than willing to completely scorch the earth with Sebastian.
Her sudden threat brought a dead silence to the conversation.
Raelynn knew he understood exactly what she meant. Seraphina was practically a public figure; she couldn't afford a massive scandal.
Time stretched agonizingly.
Then, the call abruptly disconnected.
He clearly didn't want to engage further. Cold. Ruthless.
It felt like a burning slap to the face. Raelynn's entire body went numb.
This was Sebastian's final stance.
Taking a deep breath, she turned back to check on Lily. The lump on Lily's head had swollen even larger. Tears of pain and discomfort welled in the little girl's eyes, yet she didn't throw a tantrum or cry out loud.
Her bravery only made Raelynn feel like she was burning alive.
She scooped Lily into her arms, fully prepared to storm out of the station regardless of the consequences.
Suddenly, the officer rushed over. "The other party backed down. They've agreed to a settlement."
The corners of Raelynn's eyes were red, but a cold sneer tugged at her lips.
He was carrying Shane, who looked absolutely fine and was happily playing with a toy airplane. Sebastian carefully draped his coat over the boy as he carried him toward a VIP room upstairs.
Seraphina trailed right behind him, holding his suit jacket.
What a picture-perfect... happy little family.
Raelynn thought of everything Lily had endured today. Her daughter, trapped in a police station, silently bearing the pain of a head injury and a spiking fever... while Sebastian lavished endless care on Seraphina's obnoxious brother.
Clutching the medical bill, Raelynn stood in the middle of the bustling hospital.
Expressionless, she tilted her head back and stared into the blinding fluorescent lights.
After a long time, she pulled out her phone and called the Croix estate.
"Mary, that manila envelope I left on the desk... I need you to bring it to the hospital right now."
She and Sebastian had signed the divorce papers seven years ago. She only had to endure two and a half more months before this marriage naturally dissolved.
But she couldn't wait another second.
He was already here at the hospital. She was going to drag him to the lawyer's office to finalize the divorce right this instant.
