Burn in the Alpha Princess's Wrath (Leslie and Kirby) novel Chapter 453

Carris’s POV

I dropped the bombshell, but Kirby just sat there, eyes downcast and composed. Not a single flicker of surprise crossed his face, as if he’d known all along.

"And?" he asked simply.

My face must have frozen. "And..."

He looked up at me then. His eyes were dark, a bottomless void that sent a chill straight down my spine.

What he said next made my blood boil. "In the younger generation of the Crimson Moon Pack, you’re the only one with even a shred of Alpha potential. You’re the only logical choice he has. But potential is worthless without results. At best, you’d be a puppet. Why would that worry me?"

What the hell was that supposed to mean? I felt like my pride had been stomped into the dirt.

I had come here, fueled by a sense of loyalty to warn him, only to be dismissed as a disposable puppet.

"Kirby, you... you’re really underestimating me!" I snapped, fuming.

He pursed his lips. A ghost of a smile appeared on that cold, handsome face of his, making me feel even more uneasy.

"Or perhaps you actually want to be the Alpha heir? It’s not out of the question. If you stick with the Old Alpha, you might actually have a shot..."

The sarcasm was thick enough to choke on.

Everyone knew that the moment Kirby decided to act, Old Alpha Marcus wouldn't stand a chance. What "shot" would I have with him? I’d be lucky if Kirby didn't ruin me entirely for being on the wrong side.

I honestly couldn't wrap my head around it. Marcus was clearly losing his mind in his old age—staging a coup at his time of life was laughable.

The worst part was that he wanted to drag me down with him. Did he think my life was too easy?

Setting aside the fact that I didn't have the chops to fill Kirby’s shoes, even if I did take the seat, the Crimson Moon Pack would probably dissolve within a month.

I wanted no part of that kind of responsibility. It was a death sentence, plain and simple.

Left with no other choice, I looked at him miserably and laid all my cards on the table. "My dad sent me here to get your take on this. You know my side of the family isn't exactly ambitious; we don't know how to do anything but enjoy ourselves. Neither I nor my father agreed to Marcus' proposal. I'm your favorite younger brother, Kirby! You can't just unilaterally decide to kick me out of the pack!"
