Once Amala and I made it upstairs, we dove straight into our routine girl-talk and skincare ritual. We each applied a face mask and reclined on the plush loungers on my balcony, the brilliant tapestry of the Rogue Pack’s starlit sky stretching out above us.
I took the lead by sharing some of Carl’s more embarrassing stories. Even though I was always giving him a hard time, seeing Amala dissolve into giggles made me realize that my somewhat unreliable brother and she really were a perfect match.
After a while, Amala turned the spotlight on me.
"In all seriousness, Kirby and Adler are both exceptional men. Which one do you actually prefer?"
The question cut right to the bone. I tried my best to keep my voice flat and indifferent. "What does their quality have to do with me?"
"You have to choose eventually. You can't just stay single forever. Accept the one the Moon Goddess arranged for you—isn't that what you used to say?"
If Amala could see through my face mask right now, she’d see me rolling my eyes so hard they were nearly in the back of my head.
"No," I said slowly. "Lately, I’ve started to think the Goddess didn't arrange a man for me—she arranged a mountain of trouble."
The air went still for a moment, and I could tell Amala was at a loss for words.
After a beat, she probed further. "I can tell Adler has feelings for you. Do you actually know him well?"
I went silent for a moment, then shook my head. "Adler gives off a very gentle, reliable vibe, but I always feel like I can’t quite see what’s beneath the surface. Though... I definitely like his son better!"
The thought of that little rascal Eren made my lips curve upward instinctively. I wondered if he was currently getting a lecture for his latest bout of mischief.
Once we finished our masks, exhaustion set in. Neither of us had the energy for an all-nighter, so we called it a night.
Early the next morning, I was getting ready to head over to the Pack headquarters when a message popped up on my phone from Kelly.
"Season one was a huge success! Leslie, would you like to come to our wrap party?"
