Leslie’s POV
"Leslie, what brings you here?" Adler’s voice was as gentle and modest as ever. When he looked at me, his clear eyes held my reflection so vividly that my heart skipped a beat.
I offered a smile and explained, "A show I invested in is having its wrap party today. They invited me to join the celebration. I was getting bored at home, so I figured I’d come by and take a look."
Adler reached naturally into the backseat to grab my bag, instinctively extending a hand to support my arm. I was a beat slow to react, but managed to take an inconspicuous step forward, smoothly avoiding his touch.
As he handed me the bag, a lingering look of concern remained on his face. After asking which floor and hall the event was in, he paused. "I should walk you up."
I declined with a smile. "It’s fine, really. I’m fully recovered. My father wouldn't have let me leave the house otherwise."
He gave a warm laugh, quickly pivoting to a different reason. "But I’d like to meet your friends, if that’s alright?"
I went silent for a moment. Seemingly sensing that his request was a bit abrupt, he didn't look disappointed. Instead, he adopted a more professional tone and explained patiently, "The entertainment industry in the Northern Continent has massive growth potential. I happen to have a few media investment plans on my desk right now. You wouldn't mind if I 'used' this opportunity to see how things work, would you?"
The excuse was official and dignified enough. Whether it was true or not, it made me breathe a sigh of relief. I certainly didn't mind a request based on mutual interest!
"Of course not," I answered readily. "Though it’s just a wrap party, so there isn't much to use as a reference. If there are other events in the future, I’ll be sure to give you a call."
I was never one to be stingy when a favor could be repaid with money or resources.
Adler’s smile was soft and sincere as he nodded. Suddenly, he reached out and naturally tucked a stray lock of hair behind my ear that had been ruffled by the wind. The gesture was casual and incredibly tender.
I didn't pay much attention to the detail, clutching my bag and leading the way. As we walked, I filled him in on the current state of the industry. "I don't know everything about this circle, but I’ve heard the authorities are starting to scrutinize the astronomical salaries. There’s definitely risk involved."
He walked beside me, nodding seriously. "I’ve heard the same rumors. A few of the top stars I was looking at recently got caught up in scandals, which is why I’ve stayed on the sidelines."
