Leiss' POV
I stood before Kelly, my throat tightening. I was about to say that Leslie was the one who let me in, but I caught Leslie’s sharp glare. It was a clear warning: do not sell her out.
I had no choice but to look away and force out a lie. "I snuck back in," I muttered.
Kelly let out a cold laugh, her voice like ice. "You aren't welcome here."
I let out a sharp huff, suppressing the fire in my chest. "You mean you don't welcome me, right?"
"As long as you know," she replied with total indifference.
Her gaze was distant; she clearly couldn't be bothered to waste another word on me. As I prepared to snap back with another remark, she looked like she was ready to bolt, her eyes scanning the room for an exit.
I bit my back teeth and couldn't stop a low growl from escaping. "What is so great about that pretty boy? He won't see a single cent of Crimson Moon Pack assets. He’s just playing with you because you're something new!"
My wolf told me to shut up, but I just couldn't swallow this bitterness.
Slap—
A stinging pain radiated across my face.
Kelly’s eyes were as cold as midwinter, her voice low and dangerous. "Get out. My life is none of your business!"
Her hand was trembling slightly and her cheeks were flushed; she was beyond furious.
As the heat burned on my face, the rage in my heart flared even hotter. I ground my teeth so hard they creaked. Before I could retaliate, Carris’s voice drifted over, laced with a mocking chuckle.
"Beta Leiss, I’ve seen some thick skin in my time, but this is a first. There has to be a limit to your harassment, don't you think?"
Leslie’s POV
I sat a short distance away, watching this farce unfold with my eyes wide in disbelief.
Good grief!
If I hadn't seen this with my own eyes, I would have sworn I’d wandered into a rehearsal for some trashy soap opera. I watched Carris stand in front of Kelly, looking like a hero ready to "defend her against the world," and then he actually had the nerve to let these words fly:
"Kelly, you are so wonderful. Beta Leiss didn't know how to cherish you, but I do. I can't stand to see you sad for even a second. No matter what obstacles lie ahead, as long as we’re together, I won't let a single thing hurt you!"
I swear, in that moment, I felt like I was watching a script from an old, melodramatic romance. Carris’s eyes were full of staged longing, and his tone was so syrupy it could have rotted my teeth. Even his pheromones had shed their usual playboy edge, replaced by an aura of deep, soulful devotion.
I’ve seen my fair share of dramatic, manipulative Omegas, but compared to the level Carris was playing at right now, they were amateurs.
This guy... he acts just like a total bitch. It's honestly shameless!
