Chaos Girl Rewrites the Script novel Chapter 101

Cyril Ravenshire's gaze was cool as he read the email, word for word.

It seemed Frederick Whitmore was having quite the headache over the Ravenshire family finding out about “Document No. 49.” Otherwise, he wouldn't have violated protocol to contact this 'Mr. Lane' at such a critical moment in the presidential election.

This was, in fact, the first email he had received since decrypting 'Mr. Lane's' inbox. Usually, the only traffic was 'Mr. Lane' issuing orders.

Cyril's eyelids lowered, his fingertips unconsciously scrolling the mouse wheel. After a moment of thought, he made a decision.

He clicked the mouse, altered a few lines in the email, and after confirming everything was correct, he rerouted the data to send the intercepted message on its way.

Now that the Ravenshire family was aware of “Document No. 49’s” existence, if Caspian Ravenshire followed the trail, he might soon uncover the existence of 'Mr. Lane'.

Based on his observations and understanding of 'Mr. Lane' over the past year, the Montclair family was destined to become a disposable pawn.

Cyril closed his laptop and pushed open the glass door leading to the balcony.

The night was closing in, and a million city lights twinkled before him like stars within reach.

His expression was serene as he picked up a watering can and tended to the plants on the flower stand. A gentle evening breeze stirred, and a delicate Peonielle unfurled a new shoot.

Frederick sat at his desk, his eyes closed in thought. He held a pipe, rubbing it slowly. The blue light from his computer screen flickered, casting a cold, sterile blue light across his features.

*Ding—*

Ethan froze for a second before exploding in rage. “You’re throwing me under the bus? You expect me to take the fall alone? You old bastard! Don't even think about it! You were the mastermind behind the Gold Hill affair. The sales contracts even have your signature on them. You're not getting out of this clean. Don't say I didn't warn you—if I go down, I'm taking every last one of you with me.”

Finding the shouting unpleasant, Frederick moved the phone away from his ear. “Young man, you need to look at the bigger picture. What era are we in? The Montclair family is the Montclair family, and you are you. Even if you go to prison, the Montclair family's foundation remains, and you'll still have us, your old allies. Life won't be too hard for you on the inside. But if you insist on mutually assured destruction, then you won't be the only one to suffer.”

Ethan was no fool to have gotten this far. He fell silent for a moment, then asked through gritted teeth, “Is this your idea? Or Mr. Lane's?”

Frederick replied, “What's the difference? Cutting one's losses is the most basic rule in our world. When we all allied to get on 'Mr. Lane's' ship, we should have been prepared for this. If you have to blame someone, blame yourself for being careless and getting caught. Cooperate, and we can all continue the game. If you don't, then the Montclair family will be forced out.”

Ethan was speechless.

Two days before Vivienne's trip to Alderwick, a major event rocked Athelvia's political scene: Ethan Montclair was formally arrested.
