Leander was speechless.
Seeing how tense the atmosphere was, Evelyn immediately stepped forward and grabbed Julian, patting him on the shoulder a few times. "For heaven's sake, have you forgotten all your manners? If your grandfather found out, you'd be in for another beating. Alaric just got home, so hold your tongue."
Julian glanced at Evelyn, a slight smirk playing on his lips, then looked down and continued toying with the silver coin in his hand.
Evelyn let out a long sigh of relief and smiled at Alaric. "Alaric, we've spoiled Julian these past few years. Don't take it to heart."
Alaric gave a faint nod.
"Oh! Is everyone here?" Benedict said with a smile as he pushed the door open.
The expressions on everyone's faces were varied. Alaric stood up and nodded slightly. "Benedict."
"Alaric!" Aurelia peeked out from behind Benedict. After sizing Alaric up for a moment, she rushed forward excitedly. "Alaric, is it really you? You're home!"
Alaric stared at the girl's face for a moment. "Aurelia?"
"You remember me, Alaric?" Aurelia was overjoyed.
Alaric nodded. "You haven't changed a bit."
He had left the Ravenshire family at the age of eight, and Aurelia was only six at the time. Although seven years had passed, he recognized her at once as the little girl who used to follow him around, constantly asking questions.
Aurelia was thrilled. As she was about to speak, Julian, standing to the side, let out a cold laugh.
"Alaric, telling a girl she hasn't changed a bit isn't exactly a compliment."
Aurelia looked back and forth between Julian and Alaric, quickly waving her hands. "It's okay, I really haven't changed much."
She and Benedict had been standing outside the door for a while, and they could feel the hostility in the air even through the wall. Aurelia was terrified that one wrong word from her would ignite a war between the two.
Alaric stood up again. "Dorian."
Dorian's serious expression immediately brightened. He walked quickly over to Alaric, gave him a thorough look, and clapped him on the shoulder. "It's good to have you back."
He then stepped aside, revealing the young man behind him. "Alaric, let me introduce you. This is Cyril. He's a month younger than you."
Cyril slowly stepped forward, a gentle and harmless smile on his pale face. "Alaric."
Alaric's gaze slowly fell on Cyril. He had already heard from Wesley that his grandfather hadn't come to Alderwick because of him.
"Cyril?" Alaric asked.
Cyril's eyelids lifted, his expression becoming a bit more animated. "Yes."
